Why would an NXT superstar want to make the main roster?

I'm serious about this question. As far as I can tell the main roster offers two advantages, more money and more exposure. However, with NXT it seems as if you get a higher quality of life and work. You aren't on the road nearly as much as you would be on the main roster, which means you can actually make a home, start a family, spend time real with them and not have to go with out seeing your wife (or husband) and children for most of the week. At the same time, the quality of the actual wrestling many times is higher in NXT than on the main roster and the shows are run better as well.

So why would anyone want to leave?

It's like you are reading my mind. Seriously.

As for the pole, I would pick NJPW.

EDIT: Depressed to see the amount of people below driven by money.

I doubt they "want" to leave. it's more that when you work for the WWE you have no say in any aspect of your character. You think Roman thought "Suffering Succotash" was gonna end up on a t-shirt? You think Terry Taylor thought the Red Rooster was going to get him in a Wrestlemania main event? You think Apollo Crews wanted to be a jobber to bigger jobbers.

The WWE tells you to do it you do it. Because there's ten other guys behind you that will, so you may as well and get paid.

Sad, but true.

You don't just "make more money" on the main roster. You make A LOT more money on the main roster. So unless you're rich already, I don't get why you'd ever want to stay in NXT working 200 person live events for pennies. Some people make more money with one PPV than you will all year working NXT as a dev talent.

I was under the impression that most are in wrestling to make a living, while simultaneously following their dreams. NXT ain't much of a living.

the salary between nxt stars and main roster is enourmous. the jobber of the main card make a shitload more than the top nxt ppl. with the salary of main roster, u will have to work more and travel more, but u can prolly retire much earlier in life.

take randy orton for example. dude makes more than 3 million a year. Realistically, he can retire after after working only 2-3 years and live a comfortable life (having about 6-9mil). instead, he works for ten+ year, and by the end of his wwe career, he will be a multimillionarie who has enough money to provide for his next generation, and the generation after.

More money, duh. You have to consider that not everyone is guaranteed to be a star, or to have star potential. You've got guys like Tyler Breeze and Tye Dillinger who jobbed in NXT and are guaranteed to job on the main roster. I'll definitely take more money in a heartbeat if I'm stuck in that position.

Also you're not "choosing" where you work. People like Joe and Asuka probably make a lot for NXT, but I would imagine they don't make a lot compared to main roster people. AJ Styles debuted on the main roster because they gave him a pretty big deal for a guy with no mainstream wrestling exposure. If WWE are paying you a certain amount of money, you better believe you're working the shows that matter, not HHH's vanity project.

Because no one has ever said "it's always been my dream to be on NXT TakeOver".

More money and perks and it's the natural progression in their job.

Plenty of people want to get that promotion although to some people who don't work in their industry wanting it doesn't seem to make much sense.

More money, more exposure, gives you more of a chance to build your name and your legacy, you'll be more famous winning the WWE title then you would be winning the NXT title.

Also allows you to work with different kinds of wrestlers, branch out a bit more, meet more people, and of course if wrestlers love travelling more often, then the main roster would certainly be more appealing.

As a wrestler, if you choose NXT over WWE, then wrestling is not for you.

This is WWE. This is not the Indys. You are on the road. You have to balance your diet and your workouts. You will not see your family very much. You will probably hook up with someone else who is also on the road as much as you are. This is wrestling. This is life.

That's a little overboard of a view in my eyes.

I assume yeah, most people would want the most exposure and the most money they could possibly make. But there are probably a few guys who would prefer NXT and to stay in a familiar environment. If they don't mind getting paid less and getting less exposure overall, then there's no reason to knock on the guy. In other industries, there are times where maybe people would turn down more money in favor of staying in a current position that is familiar to them.

Money is a huge factor. The whole fame/exposure bit wouldn't bother me as much personally, especially because in NXT, they come across like bigger superstars anyway due to how passionate the fanbase is.

It's all noble to say, "I don't care about the money, I'd live in a share house forever to be a part of amazing wrestling matches and moments," but it's also a little naive. You have to be realistic. If you have a family, you want to make sure they have the best life possible, something NXT wages won't provide. If you're single, it's a bit more doable, but all the same, you're likely to meet someone and start a family someday, and you'd want to be in the best financial situation possible.

If you have no interest in ever having relationships and family in your life, then sure, NXT forever is the place for you. Is Tye Dillinger married?

1. Incomparable money even as a starting point, let alone if you manage to make it big.

Ambrose was probably making $25k in FCW and is now making over a million a year, +40x the money.

2. Following your dream. These guys want to hold the titles their heroes held and create their own legacies.

It's not that NXT champion isn't an achievement or headlining Arrivals but it pales in comparison to the WWE title and Wrestlemania.

3. Wrestling 'moments' are influency hugely by crowds and Kayfabe.

Zane beating Neville may seem like a big NXT moment but if Zane won the big-one at WM, his NXT title win is a footnote on his career. The crowd size and reaction isn't even comparable.

4. You believe in yourself.

If your happy to stay in NXT your a chump who thinks your going nowhere on the main roster. Exactly the kinda thing we know Vince and HHH hate, you'd likely be released.

You goofs still think NXT is booked well? You can tell who watches weekly and who only watches Takeovers.

Sure NXT is great if you come from TNA or NJPW and you get to walk straight into the main event and make $100K+ a year for comparatively limited travel and decent booking but for everybody not named Joe, Roode or Nakamura you get shitty booking, no character development, no promo time, no guaranteed Takeover matches, no title opportunities and you work every weekend in addition to mandatory training at the PC and you do it for ~$50K. So it's pretty damn obvious why everybody wants to get called up except a handful of the least ambitious top dogs.

Guys like Joe, Roode and Nakamura are the ones who are getting screwed by NXT the most. They are wasting valuable years of their remaining career in developmental, wrestling only about 4 actual worthwhile matches a year and facing green wrestlers every night.

Its not hard to see why guys like Omega and the Bucks turn down NXT deals and hold out when they see what someone like AJ Styles is doing on the main roster.

Think of this. Samoa Joe debuted in NXT in May 2015 and soon began feuding for the NXT title. AJ Styles debuted almost a full year later, and has gone to Wrestlemania, main evented PPV and won the WWE title. Samoa Joe is just now finishing feuding for the NXT title.

How is NXT worth it for these guys?? NXT basically ruined Hideo Itami's career and will kill off Roodes since he will be like 43 by the time he is finally called up.

Being a jobber on the main roster is better than being an NXT main eventer. Even people like the VaudeVillains could be main eventers on TNA or something like that if they decided to leave. Just because they job in the WWE doesn't mean their career is a failure. This is the big leagues and every other promotion is like minor leagues.

All they care about are money & exposure..

Honestly I'd rather be a NXT wrestler. Yeah you're paid more on the main roster but when you subtract travel and other expenses, are you really much better off than when you were sleeping in your own bed every night and probably enjoying what you're doing more ?

But who knows, if I was I fortunate enough to make it to NXT I would probably want more out of my career.
