Apparently he’s going to stick with the streaming/studio side, which has a better future than the cable side. Some lackey is going to be saddled with trying to make cable work … which it can’t (it’s a dying conveyance and not just for WBD).

We’ll see whether AEW, which signed its deal with TNT — stated as going with the cable side in reports — which means we’ll see what it means.

On one hand, AEW seems to be its most prominent cable property and thus this could enhance its position given cost vs amount of content … or they could scrap all original programming and go full TBBT/Friends rerun route.

I was surprised Zaslav survived the story about the company being billions more in debt than they originally realized.

 

Regardless where you stand in the AEW side, I think everyone can agree that Zaslav is a true example of failing upwards in life.

 

I’ve been saying for a while now I think the company is either gonna declare bankruptcy or get sold off for scraps. It has been declining for a while and most of their big business projects seem to be failures.

 

AEW is part of TNT sports which means it’ll be jettisoned away from WB and will be part of the new debt laden company.

For their global networks, it will contain CNN, TNT Sports, Discovery, Discovery+ & other TV networks

 

To put this in Animal House terms (which the clip illustrates), the Omegas are streaming and studios with WBTV, WB Pictures, DC Studios, HBO, etc.

Hopefully whatever changes happen to AEW, it's a bad enough hit that it causes MJF's departure from AEW so he can sign with the WWE, but nothing beyond that.

In a corporate umbrella of instability, AEW has done absolutely nothing to make their product feel desirable beyond it being weekly live content that fills a TV slot. Their time to change that feeling is starting to run out.

If Tony Khan wants to continue running a wrestling company, he better get it through his head and quick that he needs to make some changes. There IS an opening, but not with the current AEW playtime mentality.

 

Well this sounds like shit for us. I usually watch the aew shows later in the week on Max so I would have to sub to another streamer to do that in the future and not have Max or pay for Max as well.
