Chris Benoit’s son, David Benoit, in front row seats at AEW Collision

I understand why everybody is talking about David Benoit being in the front row at AEW Collision because what Chris Benoit did is so monstrous. Chris did have a legendary in-ring career, but it's completely overshadowed by the double murder-suicide. However, it wasn't David Benoit who committed these acts. There's no denying the resemblance. He looks just like Chris. It's nice of AEW to not erase David Benoit from history. He didn't do anything wrong. He's slightly a victim of the tragedy himself because if Chris didn't turn into a homicidal maniac, I'm sure David would be involved with the WWE in some capacity. Now nobody wants to touch him with a ten-foot pole because of what his family member did. They don't want to upset the advertisers and shareholders by having the name "Benoit" come up.

If he wanted, he could just wrestle under another name than "Benoit".
Sure, everybody can see the resemblance, but due to unfortunate circumstances, the name Benoit will forever be associated with what Chris did..
David isn´t ashamed of his dad, nor should he be in my opinion (Chris was obviously not himself when he committed that crime), but there´s no need to advertise the name Benoit.

Easy. Change his name to Osama Bin Wah.

How can you not hold Chrispin Wah accountable? Rapists and murderers can use the same argument to get off in that case.

No problem with him being there. He's just an innocent party. He has the unfortunate problsm of looking like his dad and carrying his dad's name. You can't even look at him and not instantly think of his dad.

The wrestling world needs to embrace him and not allow him to be collateral.
Perfect response that I fully agree with. People shouldn’t hang that dark cloud over because of who his father is.

Rapists and murderers use that argument quite often. "insane at the moment". Most of them get sentenced to some sort of treatment while being confined, they´re not getting off the hook. Same thing with Chris if he hadn´t committed suicide. I´m not letting him off the hook, but I can see the difference between the guy everybody knew and the maniac that killed his wife and child.

Sorry to burst you bubble. Hypothetically speaking, if they renamed him David Breakker, everyone would still know he's Benoit's son - which is why the WWE will never hire him. Though, it's not his fault.

And it is Chris Benoit's fault. Even if you think brain damage is why he did what he did, he still did it. And he was always intense, Marine like, and a bully. Mick Foley probably has extensive brain damage but he's still jolly like Santa Claus. Benoit was a little bit too intense.
No bubbles bursted ;) If he did take the name Breakker, people would still know who he is simply because of how he looks. But I remember reading an interview, he doesn´t WANT to change his name.

I´m not saying it´s not Chris Benoit´s fault. I´m just saying he wasn´t himself at the time. Brain damage, Steroids, a combination, whatever.
I don´t know where you get the "bully" part from.. Most, if not all people in the business who knew him says he was a nice guy.

Chris Benoit was a bully. He bullied a lot of the young and up-and-coming talents who didn't pay their dues for 10 or so years on the indie scene, like Matt Striker and The Miz. He didn't want people to take sensationalistic shortcuts to success. He wanted you to work hard knocks. Ironically, The Miz will be the one going into the Hall of Fame.

I don't think he's not involved because of the name. He's been talking about wanting to become a wrestler for seemingly 10 years, but he's not in shape at all, doesn't seem to have ever trained seriously at any kind of school and doesn't seem to have much charisma or mic ability.

Bonus:

Apparently someone caught him in a wide shot hanging out at Bret's new bar. Certainly looks like him in the grey/green to the right of the TV's

I feel bad for him just for the reason it must be really difficult for him to just live his life and enjoy his free time, going to wrestling shows, etc.

And that's before taking into account what his father did.

I hope he has a good support group around him, and people in the business keep an eye on him, make sure he's getting on alright.

He seems like a stand up young man. Though I've heard interviews of him trying to break into wrestling and I don't think it's a good idea. Not even about his father but he's over 30 and hasn't even had a match.

Unfortunately, he’s gonna have that dark cloud around him forever. People won’t ever be able to shake who he’s related to and there are dumb ones out there who will hold him most as responsible for what happened when he has nothing to do with it.

He deserves a chance and shouldn’t be held back but I really can’t see him making it far in the business.

I’ve never seen anyone suggest David is responsible or treat him like he was. But on the other hand, as people have pointed out, you cannot look at him and not immediately think of his dad … which means thinking of what his dad did.

The idea that he would be employed by WWE (or AEW) if it wasn’t for what his dad did Is frankly ridiculous. From what we know, he enrolled in a wrestling school (under Lance Storm? I think that’s right) with full support from important people like Chris Jericho and … quit within like a week. He’s talked about wanting to be in wrestling but he hasn’t taken any serious action and at his age I’d say it’s unlikely at best that he ever will. Could he get a backstage roll and learn the business and work his way up as an agent or something else? Maybe, depending on his aptitude, motivation and interest. But no way without ever even learning how to wrestle does it make sense that he’d be on a roster at this point if his name was John Doe and his dad wasn’t a wrestler.

EDIT: If it is indeed his dream to become a wrestler, he’s running out of time and needs to get serious immediately. But really I just hope he finds peace and happiness in life whatever he does. What his dad did is in no way his fault nor a reflection on him.

The kid's gonna have flak wherever it goes. It sucks. You can tell from DSOTR and any other interview he loved his father and you can also tell he knows he's screwed.

Nothing wrong with him. I was looking forward to a wrestling career years ago but it's okay to sit on the sidelines as a fan. Probably best for his mental health and family.

I welcome him!

Has anyone noticed that the most vocal people on how Benoit should be forgotten are guys like Paul heyman. It's been proven that Benoit suffered from CTE and had advanced dementia. Most psychologists who studied the case believe that there is a very good chance that Benoit was in the middle of a dementia-related "epsiode" when the killings took place. They also said tat it was clear that the CTE and the mental illnesses it caused was directly caused by concussions. Benoit suffered thousands of concussions over his career. One of the dectors even said that there was evidence that he had suffered 6 or 7 concussions within just days of each other at some point.

The most vocal people about Chris being forgotten and his legacy ignored are the nes who have the worse repuations for letting (or should I say PRESSIURING)) wrestlers to work through injuries. Like Paul himself, and the WWE.

The ones who likely caused most of the brain damage.

Exactly. People who think WWE, Paul Heyman and others blackball Chris Benoit for moral reasons about a murderer are being naive in the extreme. They want us to forget Chris Benoit because remembering him fully would mean more chance of concussion lawsuits happening and succeeding.

I have a sneaking suspicion TK might sign him. He's the maverick Booker of the wrestling industry.

I can see him taking a chance on the kid and what if,WHAT IF,he turns out to be a phenomenal wrestler and talker. WWE would instantly scoop him up.

David stated in an interview I watched he has been offered opportunities to become a pro wrestler from many companies. But decline due to mental health issues.

But he seems to be in a better place now,he genuinely looked happy to be at a wrestling show. That was a planned spot,I expect to see him in an AEW ring in the next two years.

The reason they don't promote Chris Benoit is that HE MURDERED HIS WIFE AND SON. How do you answer to the fans, advertisers, and shareholders promoting a man who did that? You'd be promoting a literal murderer - it's like promoting Robert William Fisher the America's Most Wanted Fugitive and former FBI Top Ten most wanted.

With Scott Hall, you can still put a positive spin to his life because he never killed anyone from drinking and driving (and that still would've technically been an accident), and he died from a blood clot. They say "he had his demons but cleaned himself up later in life." With Benoit, there's no positive spin that can explain away what he did.
