Having just had a read through of the 20 years ago thread in the Classic Wrestling section, I thought this would be an interesting idea for a thread.
Thanks to the genius invention that is the Wayback Machine, we can access any site from whenever. One of them is LordsOfPain.net's own News Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20040414000523/http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/archive.html
And from there you can access any of the old headlines, some of which are fascinating reading to see how many either a) were actually true; b) never happened; c) happened at a later date. Ten years ago was December 2003: http://web.archive.org/web/20040805.../20040805085842/http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2003_/news-archive-12-2003.html
Some headlines I've picked out:
December 11th, 2003 - The Rock vs John Cena at WrestleMania XX?
You would assume, had Rock faced Cena, that Cena's push would have come much quicker too. After WrestleMania XX, Cena was involved in a rivalry with Rene Dupree, and you can't go from Rock to Dupree! I think this would have been waaay too early, in any case considering Cena's position on the card at this point. There's another article from December 2003 here that Cena was a favourite to win the Royal Rumble. Of course, that didn't materialise until 2005.
December 17th, 2003 - News on Bill Goldberg's meeting with Vince McMahon
Although...
December 19th, 2003 - Reasoning behind Evolution title sweep at Armageddon
Interesting to note how early Orton vs Triple H was planned, this was December 2003 and the angle went down in August 2004.
I'll try and keep this relatively updated every two/three weeks as I think it'd be interesting discussion, there's a whole host of interesting tidbits above for anyone wishing to have a look - but don't go 'into the future', the idea is that January 2004's headlines will be looked at next month and so on.

Here, as it turned out Rock and Foley did face Evolution. What I didn't realise was the other option! Rock vs Cena at that particular junction would have been interesting, and had it happened at WrestleMania XX, who would have won? Cena was at this point on SmackDown's mid-card and moving upwards (slowly at this point) and for Rock this was his last match.

Two points here: Was Goldberg really that unhappy during his WWE run? And secondly, was he booked badly? I think what his expectations were compared to what actually happened were significantly different. The problem with one year contracts in general is that WWE could not be 100 percent behind him in case he walked on them after a year (which he did). On the other hand, WWE shouldn't have signed a one year contract on the basis that it was asking for trouble, especially considering the terrible WrestleMania match at the end of it.

At this point there are no articles about Lesnar leaving, although I think his book gives some specific dates about when he considered it. They did do Goldberg vs Lesnar, but comically not a Champion vs Champion but rather Leaver vs Leaver as it ended up being in the end. Reading that I also get the impression Triple H just didn't want Goldberg in the company full stop, which would almost certainly be a barrier should Goldberg ever wish to return to the WWE.
