Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin (Universal Championship)

Quote:
Seth Rollins did the impossible at WWE Super ShowDown. At WWE Stomping Grounds, he’ll have to do it again.

Less than three weeks after retaining his Universal Championship in Jeddah by defeating Baron Corbin, then fending off Brock Lesnar’s Money in the Bank cash-in attempt by drilling The Beast with a vicious low blow and raining down a barrage of steel chair strikes, Rollins will be in a nearly identical situation. At WWE Stomping Grounds, Rollins must defend his championship against the dangerous Lone Wolf while looking over his shoulder for “Mr. Beast in the Bank.”

If anyone can do it, it’s The Beastslayer, who has been on the biggest roll of his WWE career in 2019, winning the Men’s Royal Rumble, slaying The Beast at WrestleMania to capture the Universal Championship, and retaining it in barnburners against AJ Styles and Corbin. After succeeding in his mission to turn the red brand into “Monday Night Rollins” with an abundance of show-stealing matches, Rollins will attempt to finally silence the outspoken Lone Wolf by Stomping him into oblivion and maintaining his iron grip on the title.

The hot-tempered Corbin seemingly has no one to blame but himself for his loss to Rollins, as the former Raw General Manager-Elect spent a significant amount of the title fight arguing with referee John Cone after coming within an eyelash of winning the championship on several occasions. Doing so gave the ever-opportunistic Architect the brief opening he needed to stun The Lone Wolf with a roll-up for the 1-2-3, though Corbin tattooed the Universal Champion with a ring-rattling End of Days after the bout, leaving Rollins susceptible to a potential cash-in from Lesnar.

Even if Rollins gets past the former United States Champion in what is certain to be a grueling championship collision, Lesnar could be lurking nearby. And while The Beast hasn’t appeared to be in a hurry to cash in his contract – instead choosing to let the sword of Damocles dangle over the head of The Beastslayer (and even WWE Champion Kofi Kingston to a lesser extent) – a likely still-seething Lesnar could be champing at the bit to end Rollins’ reign after being embarrassed by him at WWE Super ShowDown.

Who will walk out of the Tacoma Dome with the Universal Title? Tune in to WWE Stomping Grounds, streaming live Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network to find out!

Another match that doesn't need to happened with a challenger who has no business being in the title picture. Just the male version of Becky vs Lacey.

Does anybody really want to see this? Baron Corbin just doesn’t do it for me. I just can’t take him seriously at all.

Re: Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin (Universal Championship)

They should just rename this show "Rematch City" or something because that's pretty much all it is. Also WWE's continued obsession with Blandy Corbin still baffles me? Seth needs an opponent who isn't the textbook definition of "meh."

Re: Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin (Universal Championship)

Why is Baron Corbin having a rematch? I mean, he lost fair and Square.

It was Corbin WHO took the chair by his own will. It was Corbin WHO yelled at the referee by his own will. Then Rollins won by a roll-up and did not grab the tights. It was a clean win and Corbin only has himself to blame.

So why does he get a rematch? What was unfair in his match with Rollins at Super Showdown? I just don't get it.

I agree with that point, I mean Seth himself is so "meh" that he needs to feud with interesting people. In the Geek Era where 95% of them are "meh", Corbin is less "meh" than most of the Geeks who think doing spots is somehow a personality.

How people can look at someone as craptacular as Seth Rollins as World Champion and complain about anyone else on the roster is beyond me.

WWE gives no shits about even trying to justify rematches these days, especially for their favorites. Lacey is getting a rematch to with no story reason, despite losing clean via submission the last time around. And even Alexa's title shot has only, shaky, foundations.

Vince has given up on trying to hide his favoritism completely now.

These are the filler summer months. If Vince liked Lacey and Corbin as much as people think he does he wouldn't have them lose over and over in every big match.

He'll probably job them out again and send them back to mid-card hell for awhile even though they should both win. Vince fucking loves Seth as much as anybody not named Brock and smarks act like he's some red headed stepchild to him. I don't get it.

Just like the "filler" holiday months, and the "filler" months pre-Mania, etc. WWE seems to have nothing but "filler months" these days.

What happened to "no automatic rematches"? Did Vince think we forgot? Or did Vince forget?
