Ive been watching WWF/E since 1997, seen the very first HIAC match and since then its my fav match type. Though since going pg the matcehs have diluted, last year saw two of the best HIAC matches since WWE went pg. This list is entirely imo, and different people definitely have diff opinions. Also it should not be a surprise that HHH and Taker dominates the list as they had more hiac matches than any other wrestlers. Eitherways my list (no 1 is imo the best):

1. Triple H vs Cacuts Jack, Hell in a Cell match, No Way Out 2000.

2. The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels, Hell in a Cell match, Bad Blood 1997.

3. Triple H vs Batista, Hell in a Cell match, Vengeance 2005.

4. The Undertaker vs Mankind, Hell in a Cell match, King of The Rings 1998.

5. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels, Hell in a Cell match, Bad Blood 2004.

6. The Rock vs Stone Cold vs Kurt Angle vs Triple H vs Rikishi vs The Undertaker, 6 men Hell in a Cell match, Armageddon 2000.

7. The Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar, Hell in a Cell match, No Mercy 2002.

8. The New Day vs The Usos, Hell in a Cell match, Hell in a Cell 2017.

9. Triple H and Shawn Michaels vs Vince Mcmahon, Shane McMahon and The Big Show, Hell in a Cell match, Unforgiven 2006.

10. The Undertaker vs Edge, Hell in a Cell match, SummerSlam 2008.

11. Kevin Owens vs Shane McMahon, Falls Count Anywhere, Hell in a Cell match, Hell in a Cell 2017.

12. The Undertaker vs Randy Orton, Hell in a Cell match, Armageddon 2005.

13. Triple H vs Chris Jericho, Hell in a Cell match, Judgement Day 2002.

14. The Undertaker vs Triple H, Hell in a Cell match, WrestleMania 28. (this is imo over rated because of the "end of an era" tag, had little use of the cell, felt more like a no dq match, and HBK killed Taker and HHH's chemistry, and the end of an era was as much a lie as "once in a life time" was, had Taker retired 20-0 it might have really been significant, that wasn't the case, and we have seen plenty of DX reunion after that too).

15. The Undertaker vs Batista, Hell in a Cell match, SurvivorSeries 2007 (would have been higher had Edge not ruined it in the end. Now I know Kane interfered in the end of Taker vs HBK in the 1997 hiac match, but that was totally different, and Kane was an absolute monster there, hell of a debut it was for him, Taker and HBK already had a classic and Kane just added to it, but Edge's interference in Taker vs Batista match imo was cheap sneaky spot ruining a great match, a horrible ending to a great feud, though good for starting a new one, but they could have done that somewhere else instead of ruining that match... ).

Honorable Mention: "Charlotte Flair vs Sasha Banks, Hell in a Cell match, Hell in a Cell 2016", it is unfortunate they weren't allowed to go their full potential because of the pg ratings, but this was the first HIAC match by women and first WWE ppv main evented by women, a monumental moment of the women's revolution.

IMO HHH vs Cactus Jack No Way Out 2000 is the match that defines HIAC matches, the violence, the brutality, the high spots, the gore, everything about that match is perfect and nothing can top its position as the best HIAC match ever and a defining moment of the lost art of hardcore wrestling....

Irrespective of their place, all the matches in the list were brutal and amazing...

Well different people have different opinions, but i agree with your top 5 list, except the 6 men hiac match was always imo overbooked. HHH vs Batista was a brilliant match, it was more than that, it was war, and imo no HIAC match list can be complete without it, the chemistry, the brutality, etc was all perfection, we can never see something like that in pg WWE again it was Batista's single greatest match imho. My top 5 hiac match list:

1. HHH vs Foley No Way Out 2000.
2. HBK vs Taker Bad blood 1997.
3. HHH vs Batista Vengeance 2005.
4. Taker vs Foley King of the Rings 1998.
5. Taker vs Lesnar No Mercy 2002.

I hated this match. Everything bad with the HBK/HHH feud.

Oh well, different opinions for everyone, eh.

It's such a great match type for sure. Never deserved it's own PPV though. Your list is pretty bang on as well.

Re: My top 15 WWE Hell in a Cell matches.

I think back to how fucking special those first few were, how much they meant, how epic they were, and it's sad how like with all things they pretty quickly began overusing it to the point of idiocy, and it now barely means anything at all. I'm trying to think what's worse, Triple H ending every feud that he had with a Hell in the Cell match till it was more predictable than Ric Flair coming off the top rope, or the period after that where they gave the gimmick its own show so we now get one every year whether feuds are deserving of it or not.

Anyway...

Taker Brock at No Mercy 2002 is probably the one for me. Less of the bullshit, just a straight up brutal showdown with the most amazing finish ever.

I'd have the original, and the king of the ring 98 one following that, with Taker and Triple H's melodrama rounding out the top 5.

The Uso's and New Day one would probably be next on the list, and after that there's just a whole lot of mediocrity all blurring together.

The thing that always got on my nerves about a lot of them was how they would have to get the big spot in there to the point it didn't mean anything anymore. Seth and Dean both falling off the side just felt so staged, Shane doing the EXACT SAME BUMP/making the exact same idiotic mistake two Hell in a Cell's in a row, Rikishi having that truck with the hay perfectly placed for him to fall on and with regards to your number 1... The second that happened I just thought what an awful knock off it was of the king of the ring one, and lo and behold the original continues to endure, and the 'safe' planned, overly thought out replica has largely been forgotten.

Anyway, rant over. The ones that I hated were Charlotte and Sasha's, Triple H and Shawn's, and Triple H and Nash's.

I basically agree withyou but I wouldn't use the word deserved as much as I would say it simply shouldn't be it's own PPV.

It kills the whole point and appeal of the match.

Hell in a Cell should be the climactic finale of a serious blood feud. Not something a match is shoehorned into. That's part of what, imo, made the New Day/Usos Hell in a Cell so good, it made sense for them to have a cell match. It would be another story if WWE booked their feuds knowing that Hell in a Cell was X amount of mouths away, but, needless to say, a lot of the time that doesn't happen.

It also kills the hype and spectacle and really emotion investment in the match having one every year, basically for the same reason of a cell match should be reserved for, for lack of a better word, special feuds.
