Men call her Asuka! Never have you known her like! It is a great pleasure and privilege to present, quietly and without fanfare, a brand-new thread dedicated to our fierce and formidable Asuka!
In any case to delve back into the subject of Asuka and what her road to Mania and eventual Mania match will look like, I think that the outcome of her Fastlane match could be looked at in two ways:
- It starts a feud between Sonya and Mandy that will likely see them reconciling and going after the tag titles
- It sets things up for Mandy to get another shot but this time with Sonya as well, so a triple threat at Mania.
Additionally, they could end up making it a fatal four way by adding Lacey Evans (if the idea of pushing her is still on the table).
Worse case scenario would be a 1 on 1 with Lacey.
The alternative to the above would be an NXT call up debuting on SD and directly challenging Asuka. But I am not sure they will actually go this route. Both Kairi and Io are being setup as a tag team and will likely have a match against Sasha/Bayley at Mania. I don't think they'll do a champion vs champion calling Shayna up.
A bit of a left field option is Alexa Bliss who could make the jump to SD to challenge Asuka but with the shakeup coming up I think they'll hold up on that.
All in all, be it in a triple threat involving Sonya or fatal four way with Lacey it makes no sense to have Asuka drop the title at Mania. She should retain and then we'll see how things line up after the shakeup.
I don't think Mandy vs. Sonya is going to be a full-on feud yet. They like booking women with couples therapy shit and dragging the build. So even if they have a triple threat match at Mania, Asuka's retaining until she can feud with someone who comes to SDL during the shakeup.
