Re: The Pirate Princess: Kairi Sane Thread
Banged up =/= injured, for what its worth. She could just be feeling incredibly sore or tender. Before WarGames, she worked a pretty hard NXT schedule. Every single house show she could (it's not exactly a secret that she absolutely loves interacting with her fans, and these house shows are a good way to achieve her goal on that front). She also went all out in most of them, and its something she needs to learn to rope in. If I were her, I would talk to WWE about not having to do the elbow drop every match, and talk about bringing back the Ikari (her submission move) as a secondary finisher for most house show matches.
I don't think it'll affect her push or anything of the sort at the end of the day though. And Rovert touched upon it, and said that a LOT of the NXT roster is banged up at the moment. Its just the holidays masked a lot of it. So it's not shocking WWE is giving time off to some of their big names so that they can heal up. NXT is less rough than the main roster (schedule wise), so its easier to get away with. And as long as Kairi doesn't need surgeries, she'll be fine. Also, if WWE was cooling off on her, they wouldn't put her in the NXT Future Star category, or promote her so heavily in their video packages still.
As an aside, WWE got sorta lucky with this entire thing, as Shayna choking her out gave them a ready made storyline for the future. Kairi can come back (after resting) and take the NXT Women's Title from Shayna, assuming Shayna ever wins it.
Oh yeah, and anyone comparing her to Itami is pretty eeh. Kairi's issues are nothing compared to what Itami had to deal with. Remember, Itami had to get surgery on his shoulder pretty early on in his NXT career, came back a year later, then was injured again a few months later, and disappeared again for a year. Kairi is just beat up due to working pretty much every house show she possibly could, and not knowing how to restrain herself.
I don't see WWE depushing her any time soon, especially if Asuka decides to retire eventually. Kairi is WWE's only other meal ticket into Japan, at least in terms of tapping into the joshi market. And I imagine after Kairi is on the main roster, WWE will probably turn their attention (read: sign another joshi) to someone like Mayu, HZK, Hana, etc to hold down the fort in NXT.
