Murdered: Soul Suspect
Collected every trophy in the game.
Got Platinum #16 on Tuesday after 100% Murdered: Soul Suspect. I got this game on release day as I was initially intrigued by the trailer and the story but then it was left in my cupboard for 2-3 years. I decided after completing Rise of the Tomb Raider there were a few games on my list I've had for a while that I want to play and so, took them out of my cupboard and this was one of them.
This is a very easy game to Platinum, the only missable trophies are the collectibles mainly as well as the side missions. This game got a lot of very mixed reviews; either people loved it or hated it and I can understand both arguments. Myself? I thought this was a good, interesting game. Sure, it has its flaws and does get rather repetitive and tedious at times using the same formula for each section - go to location, find clue, avoid demons, move onto next place, rinse and repeat.
That and there's nothing really innovative or different about this game and there isn't really any combat, except for the QTE-esque event against the demons and in the final section of the game. However, this didn't really bother me as I was more compelled by the very interesting story. I like the concept behind this game and I really liked all of the characters and the voice acting, they gave some of the main characters a lot of depth and backstory, especially in regards to some of the collectibles you gain, which reveals more to their story and past. That I can appreciate right there.
The demons, despite spawning throughout the game and being your only real threat/test, were scary to deal with. Their screams resonated through me when I knew they were in the next room or their wailing screams alerted me when I knew they were nearby or about to spawn and I had a rather daunting task ahead. It seems easy enough, sneaking up to them and executing them but at times even when I thought I timed it right, they were somehow aware I was there and chased after me, which was rather scary and fun at the same time. Sure, it got repetitive, but I did like how petrifying they made the demons... to me anyway.
I'm a sucker for crime solving and paranormal ghostly type games/shows, so I did like that part of the game also, finding the clues, using your paranormal powers, interacting with other spirits, finding out more about the witch trials and the history of Salem, solving the various cases and linking things together to further progress in the story and reveal more to the story and inevitably lead you to the final conclusion... who is The Bell Killer? I sort of had an idea of who it was, I was technically right but they did add a twist to it and I'll commend the developers for that (a shame the company Airtight closed their doors).
There was one worrying part though towards the end of the game. I have heard of other gamers experiencing various glitches and bad ones at that, such as freezing or their game crashing and losing data or a trophy not popping. The only problems I endured was framerate issues and weird orange pixels shining on the screen in the background in certain areas (mainly the cemetery). The worst one though was towards the end of the game where I found 6 clues in the War Room (in the Judgment House) and I thought there was supposed to be a cutscene as there usually is when you find all the clues and try and solve the investigation. However, I went out of the room to execute the demons and then went back to find the clues and despite picking up the clues it didn't appear on the counter and I was unable to conclude the investigation in the room. I checked videos to see if there was supposed to be a cutscene and indeed, there was.
So I move along past some of the areas worried something buggy had happened with my game and took on more demons and thankfully, the next cutscene plays but I can tell something is going wrong with my game. It starts to sort of bug out with Ronan walking very slow and when I try and run, he sort of does this limp run where he stops with every step forward. This continues but all my trophies pop for getting all of the collectibles as well as finishing the second to last mission. However, the bug continues even as I go to the final location in the game and do the final mission. I was glad though the trophies popped and the Platinum was secured despite the bugs but that was a heart in the mouth moment!
Overall, a satisfying game to play if you want to achieve an easy Platinum and enjoy a good crime/paranormal concept.
