They've had something similar for a while now, you'd play on a game for 3/4 hours and you'd get a message telling you that you're on "cooldown", for an hour, and to go do something else.

The most laughable part here is that kids can spend up to almost $60 a month in microtransactions, but yet are limited to 90 minutes a day of actual play time.

Not sure how this is different from America's truancy laws and punishing already poor and debt-ridden parents and children through lunch debt etc which are just as draconian, but ok .. sure .. china is asshoe is 2019's theme so it's just funny watching people in this country fall all over themselves to jump on the anti-China bandwagon.

(Not supporting the law, but obvious hysterical american overreaction to other countries while ignoring their own problems is apparently 2019's biggest theme).

Some of the kids I teach to play Fortnite until the morning and then come to class exhausted, upset and on edge.

I wish parents did this themselves.

Here's the thing though, in a hyper-capitalist state (which is what China and the US both are), the parent doesn't have the time to take care of the child beyond providing for basic needs because the parent is too busy trying to meet the basic needs.

Child development is actualized beyond providing for the basic needs where psychological and social development comes in. You can't do right by your child if you have to work 3 jobs or both parents have to work more than 40 hours 5 days a week just to put food on the table and a roof over their heads.

We had Kamala here recently want to force kids to be in school from 9-6 so that parents could be even MORE productive than they already are ... Which is absolutely fucking insane. Draconian societies and nanny states are a symptom of a capitalist system where productivity is valued more than individual development - especially when that productivity only goes into lining the pockets of the already rich and wealthy.

considering china is a place where cooking animals alive for a better taste or skinning animals alive isnt seen as an issue. I wouldnt give them too much credit when it comes to integrity. Limiting gaming use is nothing when that kind of barbaric torture is seen as acceptable.

a limit on the amount kids can spend on DLC and microtransactions. The figure varies depending on how old the player is, but works out as between $28 to $57 a month.

Re: China Bans Kids From Video Games After 10 p.m., Sets Daily Time Limit

I'd look at this as a problem from this angle; if you normalise government control, it's easier to take away further liberties and individuality away each generation, or worse, with each new issue. Considering that the Chinese are already under social credit, you have to wonder how long it is until they begin to take on a Brave New World. If they are already beginning to make sure that children grow under certain influences and away from particular 'taboos', there'll be nothing there but a slave to the state. If the rest of the world feel they have to compete with China through economic means, we are looking at something far worse than Orwellianism.

I don't really dig the 'slippery slope' argument in most things but capitalism is one where the slippery slope will always occur as financials become more important than the human spirit to those who can push change.
