It's what originally got me into PC gaming way back in the day and till this day is still one of the best if not best shooters on PC.

Close second would have to be COD4 that game was fucking amazing
I lost a year of my life to CS once it came out on Xbox 1. Then another with COD4.

I'll be playing TimeSplitters the most again, if a new one ever gets released.
Was Overwatch made by the same people who made Timesplitters?

Funny story: I rented TS 1 from blockbuster. I got so angry at it I smashed the disc into pieces (in hindsight, I still have no regrets). I had to shop around different gamestops to find a used one I could afford, which ended up being $12 but was SO much to me at that age. I bought it and replaced it, but Blockbuster kept charging us late fees because I guess the serial numbers didn't register. My mom got in a huge fight with the manager over it, because we had returned the game in time (technically a different copy), and they manager yelled at my mom and then composed themselves and offered us free rentals for a month. I re-rented it for the rest of the month for free.

I fucking hat TS 1.

Mechanically FPSs are all exactly the same (and boring as fuck) so the best ones in my mind would be the ones with the best story and characters, so in theory I'd say a HL or Far Cry game, however I'm basing that on hearsay because I've never gotten to play one long enough to confirm. I'm not sure I can consider BioShock a FPS since I don't think you have to shoot anybody in those games, I think you can get through with just melee and powers. So by default I'm going to say Halo 3, even though I was bored by the combat the story kept me playing to the end.
I won't argue that FarCry has the best story for an FPS, but FarCry 3 is my favorite FPS of all time, and still holds up very well to many new FPS coming out today. I would argue that despite the slow gathering and switching of weapons, all issues with 3 were addressed in 4, 5, and so on. And, the shooting aspect of is the last part I consider. The exploration, the physics play, platforming (towers, etc), animal hunting, open approach to taking down outposts, the characters you meet.....then, the shooting is pretty cool and some guns are fun.

Ha, I actually posted about Resistance Fall of Man earlier in this thread. My post might've come across a bit too negative about R2 because I loved that game too and played the shit out of it for at least a year. Not sure what made me move on from Resistance 2, I think it was Black Ops 1 or 2 that made me switch to COD basically permanently.

The 8-player co-op was so much fun on R2, I always liked being the medic (I still do, whether it's Overwatch, COD Zombies/Blackout or Battlefield, I always take on the role of a medic). I remember the year leading up to R2's release I followed every bit of news, every magazine article, every screenshot/image that got posted online we analyzed the shit out of it over on MyResistance

After my post earlier I hopped on YouTube to look up some gameplay and stumbled upon this video which is definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet:

Blizzard developed Overwatch. Free Radical Design (formerly part of Rare Limited) developed TimeSplitters.

I'm guessing that the lack of a real story mode, or the DIFFICULTY of the "story mode" that's actually there made you do that.

I quickly got over the game not really having a story, because I loved the multiplayer so much, but playing some of the story levels on Normal or Hard were so damn difficult, especially Mansion . You had to play through all of the levels that way in order to unlock more multiplayer maps.

It's my favorite multiplayer map though. lol

For single player Goldeneye. Multiplayer MW2.

Great maps, great guns, terrific streaks (Blackbird = GOAT), best combat record/leaderboards in any COD ever. So good
I found BO1 good but dull. I had no urge to go back and play it like other CODs. It was more balanced than some other CODs, but I think BO2 was more balanced while being a more enjoyable game. In BO1 the Famas was ridiculous and BO1 had the most overpowered piece of equipment in COD history: the motion sensor which showed everyone unless they had Hacker Pro and the typical Ghost/Ninja people were not safe from it. A more defensive player could abuse the hell out of it and I know I did and my highest KD was in BO1. MW2 was more unbalanced but more fast paced and fun imo. I enjoyed more of the guns/maps/killstreaks in MW2 compared to other CODs too. In terms of enjoyment out of the COD games I played I would rank them: MW2, Black Ops 2, COD 4, Black Ops, WaW, MW3.

re: Favorite FPS of all time and why?

There's many similarities between the TimeSplitters and Overwatch characters & maps.

Another great one is Widowmaker, Amy Chen from TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, and Joanna Dark from Perfect Dark. I Love It.

These are my favorite story levels in TS:FP, set in a similar time period/setting as NeoTokyo, my favorite in TS2.

Friends i played with switched to MW2. Eventually, most returned to the game. When BO1 dropped, Yeah, alot of people i played with never went back. I switched between the two, or played other games. I left R2 for good, when Skyrim was released.

I went back to playing CO/MP when Borderlands 2 launched. Got back to playing with some of my friends who played R2.

The co-op was something else during that time.

Though, there were bad moments in superhuman mode.

I got my spec and soldier to Lv.30. I think my medic was lv.27 or 29.

Battlefield 3, holy fuck was this a gem. Maps were well balance, customization was on point. It also has one of my favorite maps in a BF game

re: Favorite FPS of all time and why?

Both of these games ate up my nights and weekends FOR YEARS! From when I jumped on after work to play Versus. Then one day I made some friends 4 Life. We would play hours and hours until I had to get some sleep before work. Just so much fun was had killing zombies or trying to stop survivors. Win or lose, it was what Xbox Live was all about.

Then something happened. Little by little the servers went to crap and we all got busy playing other things. And then we got new consoles for no real reason.

But I made a decision that rippled through my real life friends. I got a PS4. And from me to Phill (RIP), Kip and Kevan, they all got PS4s one after another and we all got a game to play together.

And maybe not as much as before, but a whole of gaming was done. Team Deathmatch, all together or on different teams, we had loads of fun. And then from Kev we got a big garage to gather in. And our group grew. So from 4 up to 6, Kip quit, and more tvs. Playing all night was fun as hell. Maybe it was 2 of us, sometimes most of us. Taco Bell, beer, pop tarts, whatever.

What makes these games my favorite FPS games? Not the shooting, graphics, winning, being tire at work the next day. It's the togetherness. The brotherhood we all shared. I'll never forget those times. It's why we play games.

Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. I couldn't even begin to guess how many hours I played those two games for.

I would kill for a spiritual successor on Switch.
