I've honestly felt the same way a couple of times with this game. For the most part I haven't really been enjoying the boss and mini-boss fights. I enjoy the world and the exploration but the boss fights brings the experience down.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (March 22nd, 2019) - "its nothing like a souls game"

Going by how my experience with this game has been, I think this will definitely be a once and done case for me. I liked some aspects of the game but overall I didn't have as much fun as I expected with it. Not to say it is a bad game it just didn't really do it for me in the same way that Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, Dark Souls, Demon's Souls and hell even Dark Souls II did. All of which I replayed several times and had plenty of fun with. The fun factor for me in this game is just not quite there.

In any case I made it to what I am thinking is the final boss..

Spoiler for game:
The fight with the Divine Dragon was basically a gimmick fight that turned out to be rather simple to finish. It had some nice visuals particularly the deathblow animation.

After that it was back to the Ashina Castle (an aspect of this game I've noticed is how much repetition there is, revisiting the same areas, facing the same bosses/mini-bosses, etc). Once again there was a need to reactivate the idols just like one had to do the second time on the area. After following the smoke trail all the way down to the Ashina Reservoir, it was back to the same shortcut the Wolf and Kyro took at the very start of the game. Moving into the open field we are met again with Genichiro who now carries the other Mortal Blade.

A boss fight naturally ensues but I left it there and called it a night.

I'll come back to that boss later. At the moment playing this game has gotten me in the mood of going through Dark Souls III again so I am thinking of starting that and maybe taking a little break from the game for now since as I said my enjoyment of hit hasn't been very high.

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (March 22nd, 2019) - "its nothing like a souls game"

This might be the 1st time we've ever disagreed on a game @Dolorian . I'm already on my 3rd playthrough of Sekiro and am loving every second of it. I don't know if I like it as much as DS3 and BB but certainly more than DS1 and especially DS2 which is the only From game I'm not enamored with.

Maybe after I've done all 4 endings I won't have a reason to continue but for now this is definitely among the best games From has ever done in my opinion.

Spoiler for Shura Ending.:

* If you decide to obey the iron code and abandon Kuro, you first of all have to deal with Emma, The Gentle Blade. Yep, that lovely lady whose been helping all this time decides to take a stand against your decision. And it's easily the best 1 phase boss fight in the game. I know you don't have many 1 phase fights anyway but this could have easily been a 2 phase deal as it's such a damn fun fight. I definitely understand from a lore perspective why she's only a short fight though considering that she's a warm up for the main final Shura ending boss. And that fucking OST, god damn her boss music is beautiful and captures her character in terms of this point in the story. I'd go as far as to say it's my favourite piece of music in the game which is no feat considering how fantastic Yuka Kitamura is.

* The final boss of the Shura ending is once again Isshin Ashina but as his current old man form. The 1st phase is much like his 1st in the Sword Saint form albeit with a few differences. He has a grab attack much like Emma does and has this really quick feint followed by a sweep attack which is super fast and requires precision to deflect. He also doesn't do his stance followed by the followed thrust as much which is an easy way to build posture through Miriki Counter. It is a slightly harder phase honestly than the 1st one of the Sword Saint form. His 2nd phase however he gains massive fire attacks and AoE's. Most are easy to dodge but you need space, so you have to try and keep the fight in the centre. If you get caught in the corner with one of those attacks you are fucked. There is one attack in particular where he does a massive AoE followed by a huge Ashina Cross like attack. Honestly the only way I found to deal with this is to use the firecracker to interrupt. If it hits it could one shot you. All in all I don't think this boss is as hard as the other Isshin however. I just played really badly and had to wait to get a good run together to beat him .

* What is very interesting about the Shura ending is that it's the 1st ending in a From game which is overtly bad and evil. Most of the game endings in the Soulsborne games were cryptic and didn't really have a good or bad vibe. You could argue the Londor ending in DS3 is bad considering what you have to do to get it but even then because DS3 doesn't have a linear plot like Sekiro does and lore/story is hidden in dialogue and in item descriptions, it doesn't have that impact where you know you've gone evil due to how desolate the world is anyway. Sekiro with the Shura ending is different, you essentially by all accounts cause a genocide in the aftermath of your actions and become a warlord. You end up killing your father Owl after swearing to honour the iron code and serve him. You become embodied by Shura, essentially a demigod of war which in buddhism the world shura-do is considered one of the seven hells. So it's pretty damn dark. To be honest as an ending, it only makes sense if you pay attention to the dialogue of the sculptor, Emma and Isshin throughout the game otherwise you would leave with your head scratching. I wouldn't do this ending again honestly not only for that reason but because of the content you miss out on overall. Still nice to do for the achiement .

Fair enough, would be too boring if we didn't

Basically, I am kind of the same mind as Jim Sterling on his video...

Well made game but it just didn't click with me in the same way as their other games did.

Finally played this and holy shit it's hard. Thought Ninja Gaiden was the hardest ninja game ever.

Hate to say it but I think I'm done with this game. The skill necessary is physically impossible for me to attain even with training. Sucks.

That Jinsuke Saze mini-boss broke me. This isn't fun when you're not good.

He's a muppet and the small room you fight him in doesn't helps either.

You have to double tap deflect right when his sword shimmers since he attacks twice really quickly.

Otherwise just charge attack + firecracker spam him to death.

Boss design is just disappointing in this game over all. I get the whole "git gud" thing that is a meme when it comes to FROM's games but I need to be having fun while I am getting good in order to be motivated to keep at it and I think Sekiro just doesn't gives that.

I watched this trying to attempt it. My game never has him doing the same move set ups when I fight him. I hate this fight since there's no room for error since he's basically a bullshit one hit death if you don't have full health.

Watching this video made me more pissed off than anything. That I struggle and have died over 20+ times and have two characters infested with Dragonrot because of it and it's beaten in 3 parry attempts back to back to back in that video. Shit like that just makes me feel inferior. He's harder to me than Lady Butterfly, whom I beat in 2 tries.

I've managed to knock him down to his second life bar using the axe method shared in that video. I'll try your fireworks idea out. Then I'll play and fail at Genichiro and (probably) quit the game anyways.

I used the umbrella against him. Makes it super easy because it deals loads of posture damage and the timing window is more friendly.
