So as an old school beat 'em up fan and a fan of OG Power Rangers (the only PR show I ever watched), this looks kind of awesome. I wonder if we're seeing this because of that movie reboot. We're really living in the nostalgia age now. Thank god Platinum isn't doing this. I'm sick of half assed Bayonetta clones, and Platinum doesn't have a clue what old school beat'em ups really played like anyway. They weren't like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry that's for sure
I was never a fan of the Mighty Morphine Powder Strangers, but that lion in that video looks eerily like one of the Voltron lions. This whole show was a blatant rip off of Voltron, wasn't it?
Actually, not in the slightest. Voltron is an early 80's entry in the "Super Robot" anime genre (with the other mecha anime with more realistic robots being called "Real robot.") Super Robot anime predates Voltron by some distance with "Mazinger Z" probably being the first one in 1972 (around 12 years before Voltron.) Power Rangers is an American Show made using action footage from the Japanese "Super Sentai" series with story segments filmed in America added to give context (which is why the costumes looked slightly different when they were talking to Zordon than to when they were fighting.) The original Super Sentai series debuted in 1975, so the concept of the Zords etc has existed since before Voltron debuted. Power Rangers uses footage from an early 90's series of Super Sentai originally. In no way shape or form were either Sentai or Power Rangers a "rip off" of Voltron. They all just take influence from the existing Super Robot genre. Voltron is far from the origin point of that type of mecha concept.
