Re: General Gaming Discussion
So I picked up Chaosbane because it was half price on CDKeys. It is way closer to what I wanted out of an ARPG, it is deffo way more Diablo 3 than Diablo 2 but I have to be honest in saying I am still struggling to get into it.
The loot is super boring, basically the same couple of skins over and over with no unique abilities. From what I understand really cool stuff does come but its end game only, its not like modern D3 which gives you a Legendary now and then during the campaign to keep things exciting between all the more throwaway campaign loot gearing you for the climax.
The classes also sorta suck as well. I do like how they've added in these sort of mobility mechanics into the Dwarf and Ranger so it isn't just you doing nothing but holding down your mouse button while explosions happen, it gives the game a more dynamic and immediate feel to the action and you're given new powers that feel tangibly powerful at a really healthy rate, again taking clear inspiration from D3 rather than 2. The problem is that after playing each class for roughly three hours each (?) I am not really blown away by any of them. Only four classes and there are a lot of blurred lines between the Dwarf and the Knight (the Dwarf basically plays like the Berserker from D3 and the Knight the Crusader from D3 and as most people probably already know by the end game those two classes were basically reskins of each other in D3 but it is way more evident here much earlier on). I really liked the Ranger with like her ricocheting arrows and poison powers and nature minions and stuff but she is clearly designed as a supporting class for a team and is not tuned to be used to tackle the game solo with. The Mage is probably the most interesting out of all of them but it is quite easy to be when you have magic powers. This means we have effectively 3 and a half classes, this is simply not good enough.
And the real elephant in the room I suppose is what an awful PC port this is, like holy shit. This might be the laziest PC port I have ever seen. It literally looks like they just copied and pasted over the console code, added keyboard and mouse support and scribbled over the top of the console button references. I had some noticeable framerate drops and a lot of screen tearing without Vsync on and the game basically has none of the options and tweaks for performance and graphics that you would expect as standard for a PC game. If the game runs badly on your PC, sucks for you I guess because you can do fuck all to change that. I also don't monitor my CPU temperature, I probably should, but for those who do apparently this game runs really hot meaning it is putting way more tax onto your system than it really should be.
I also talking about wrestling on my Twitter if you want to follow me or whatever...
