I think this is an interesting subject. Normally, most people would ascribe MTV's decline to its large array of mindless reality television shows. To me, MTV's proclivity to reality television is merely a consequence of its dwindling influence.
What has caused the "death" of MTV would be YouTube and the Internet in general. It was only a few decades ago when all music videos premiered to the public on MTV. Nowadays, most music videos no longer premiere on MTV, and most people now view them on the Internet, mainly on YouTube. It's also interesting to note that the network airs music videos very early in the morning, and even some of its satellite networks such as MTV2 do not nearly air as many music videos as it once did.
Thoughts? Do you agree with my sentiments? Do you think that it is a combination of various aspects? Do you not agree? Why or why not?
