Just two weeks ago, NXT announcers began referring to the NXT Women’s Championship as simply the NXT Championship as a way to get over the fact that both the men’s and women’s titles are equal.
This happened a day after Becky Lynch appeared on WWE Backstage and suggested that the company should not refer to female wrestlers as being part of a “division” since to some it comes across as if they are not quite on the level of the men.
Lynch said the following on WWE Backstage: ” I think it’s now starting to hold us back where we are then going ‘oh, this is the women’s segment, this is the women’s thing.’ Why do we need that division? We need people, we need characters, we need people looking for the main event spot, not the top women’s spot, the top spot.”
It looks like WWE is back to referring to Rhea Ripley’s belt as the NXT Women’s Championship as that was the name used this week on Monday Night Raw and across WWE’s social media and on WWE.com.
This was pointed out by the @WWEonFOX Twitter account when promoting tonight’s episode of NXT:
It’s unclear what prompted WWE to go back on their decree from a couple of weeks ago but, at least for now, it looks like Ripley’s title will still be referred to the NXT Women’s Championship.
As noted on Monday night, WWE is hoping for a ratings boost for NXT as Charlotte Flair is scheduled to appear on tonight’s show to answer Ripley’s WrestleMania challenge.
Well Becky even came out saying she didn't mean for them get rid of the word womens from titles, she just wanted the term womens division gone, she never really said to change the womens title belts names and remove the word womens from them.Came to their damn senses. I love Becky but that was dumb.
If you take out the name "womens" from it guess what....YOUR STILL A WOMAN
That's stupid as well, all sports that have women involved have a women's division. Becky thought she was being pro woman but she was really just trying to be deep with something that made no sense.Well Becky even came out saying she didn't mean for them get rid of the word womens from titles, she just wanted the term womens division gone, she never really said to change the womens title belts names and remove the word womens from them.
I'm beggining to think there was never a plan to remove "women's" from the title. Someone just started the rumor after Becky offhand mentioned it. Since there were really no plans, now teh story is WWE changed their mind.Well Becky even came out saying she didn't mean for them get rid of the word womens from titles, she just wanted the term womens division gone, she never really said to change the womens title belts names and remove the word womens from them.
Oh yeah i agree, saying theres no more womens division makes it sound like she wants intergender wrestling which was never gonna happen, so yeah it was kinda dumb and made no sense what she was suggesting. That's stupid as well, all sports that have women involved have a women's division.
