AXS TV’s new series WOW – Women of Wrestling from Los Angeles Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, and GLOW founder, David McLane, will premiere Friday, Jan. 18 at 9 p.m. EST. This week, AXS TV released the following first look.

WOW first launched back in 2000 and relaunched in 2012 after a nearly 12-year hiatus. The promotion is coming to Mark Cuban’s AXS TV this year, with the debut of third-generation wrestling superstar and current TNA Knockouts Champion, Tessa Blanchard. The first episode will include four matches: The Beast versus Stephy Slays, Abilene Maverick versus Fire, Khloe Hurtz versus Eye Candy, and headliner Jungle Grrrl vs. Santana Garrett for the WOW Championship.

The series premiere looks to create a satisfying return for long-time fans, and an introduction to new audiences. The promotion uses a format of character-driven performers, with names mimicking comic book heroes. Current NXT superstar Candice LeRae, Santana Garrett, and Lucha Underground’s The Beautiful Brenda are just a few notable WOW Superheroes alumni.

WOW debuted in digital format in 2015. Season 2 premiered March 1, 2016, on the WOW YouTube channel, where the third season is also available. In April of 2017, Mark Burnett, Chairman of MGM Worldwide Television, and Jeanie Buss, owner of both WOW and the Lakers, partnered to develop new episodes for the digital format. Last summer, Women of Wrestling’s new home, AXS TV, contracted with them to broadcast live events.

AXS TV’s new Friday Night Fights lineup will start with: New Japan Pro Wrestling at 8 p.m. EST, followed by the debut of WOW – Women of Wrestling at 9 p.m., and then Legacy Fighting Alliance’s first LIVE event of 2019, LFA 57 at its new time, 10 p.m.

I'm looking forward to this. It seems to have strong backing and, unlike Impact, is actually on a channel I get. I just hope it's not over the top and overproduced like Wrestlicious was.

I liked this more than expected. Some good talent in there and they're building towards what should be a great match between Tessa Blanchard and Santana Garrett. I was impressed by Fire(Kiera Hogan). It had better wrestling and was less cheesy than GLOW but it was more of the alternate universe, strict kayfabe, fantasy-based wrestling that I loved as a kid. I'll check it out again.
I was a little freaked out by the fact that the taping had Garrett's Father TNT Kenny G get involved as he recently passed away.

I had to laugh as I was watching this today and it's still as cheesy and trite as it ever was.

Only now they are giving some of the girls the lamest worst wrestling names ever on top of it.

McLane has changed practically nothing. The production still pretty much suffers the same problems that WoS and MLW have in that it overdoes it on the campiness of a pro wrestling show to the point where you think you're watching a game show that acts like a wrestling show instead. It's almost like they're trying to make it look as GLOW as they possibly can. A zillion purple lights. The entrances are laughable with cornball themes to boot. Camera angles rely on excessive panoramas and cuts to the audience to fill in scenes other than what you'd like to be watching in the ring.

They still have old Amber O'Neill wrestling for them who've they've had to fall back on for a long time.

I would give them another chance once they finally decide to really freshen up their product. For now it's too off putting for my tastes, even with Blanchard on the roster.

For anyone still watching this it seems that Santana Garrett is abruptly gone from the show after every episode had been building towards a Garrett vs. Blanchard showdown.:serious:

Is anyone still catching this?

Tomorrow's the season one finale(Blanchard vs. Havok) and they recently announced they have been picked up for a new 24 episode season this Fall.

I catch WOW occasionally on the CW and Pluto TV. Just want more sometimes cause there isn't enough of it but the crowds are amazing. They need more marketing to expand and have more eyes too.

Just saw an episode where The Beast defeated Tessa for the wow championship.
