Do you agree or disagree that Jericho had what it took to be the face of WCW?

When it comes to charisma, people agree that the Rock was second to none. But the ICW also agrees that in terms of charisma, Jericho was a very close second. When it comes to mic work, some people here actually even prefer Jericho to the Rock. On top of his charisma and mic ability, Jericho is also one of the top-ranked wrestlers, an area that a number of people had complaints with regarding the Rock.

A major complaint people had with WCW is that they "didn't create their own stars." There was also the complaints about WCW not pushing their own talent, causing Jericho and the group that made up the Radicalz to leave.

So what if WCW not only treated these workers better and and gave them pushes, but also made Jericho the permanent star?

Say Jericho had been made into WCW's version of the Rock while Goldberg became their Austin, how would that have affected the quality of the product and the rate of their success? How would he have performed as the main draw? Do you agree or disagree that he had what it took? Would the performance the product garnered have been enough to overcome Warner's bias against wrestling and prevent them from selling off to Vince?

If kept alive, would the company still be healthy right now and even beating the WWE in ratings buys with Jericho still the figurehead? With Jericho carrying the company on his back, is it possible that WCW can beat Cena and the WWE today?

Nope. Because Hogan and Flair would still be there. And don't let any damn TNA marks tell you different - those two old politicians suck the life out of every single company they're in. Jericho could have won the title but of course he would have lost it time and time again to 'protect' the Hulkster.
And time and time again Flair would shoehorn his way in, elbow drop his jacket and pretend that he was a real main eventer.
Jericho, Benoit, Raven. They were all screwed as long as Hogan and Naitch were in that rinky dink, piece of shit company.

What a stupid thread.. wCw didn't die because it didn't have the right main eventers or a poor roster. Look no further than the financial books.

I think you'll have a job convincing even this forum that Jericho could've saved WCW.

No. At that point WCW was infected with a disease. Making Jericho champ would have weakened the symptoms, but the disease, Nash, Hogan , Russo and Bischoff were still there.

Jericho has the charisma and the work rate. Some all would even consider him an upgrade from Goldberg.
Fixed.

It would have taken a lot more than one man, even Jericho, to save the shithole that was failing WCW.

Pretty much this. WCW had AIDS. You could treat it however you wanted, but either way, it was still going to die.

You could have pushed Jericho, Guerrero, Benoit, and Malenko, and it wouldn't have made a bit of difference if the people in charge were the same.

No way.

WCW suffered from a lot of things, there is no one solution to the question of "What could've saved WCW?" So what if they pushed Jericho? He was just one of the many, many underutilized talents in WCW at that time. And even if they did, there's still backstage politics. Jericho vs Hogan? No thanks. Then there's the often near-insane booking decisions that affected everyone in the company.

Should WCW have pushed Jericho? Yes! But would that have "saved" the company? No. Come to think of it, a lot of Jericho's success in WWE came as a result of WCW misusing him. He came to WWE as basically a blank slate. Had he been used as one of WCW's marquee stars, I can almost guarantee that he would be ruined right along with some of the other big names from WCW. *cough* DDP *cough*

No, because Goldberg and DDP were more deserving of the spot but even they were fucked over by retarded booking Jericho definitely should've been put into the main event in '99 before he left to WWF, and had he stayed he should've won the title at some point, but the face of the company, nah.

No just no and there's no chance in hell of it ever happening. Jericho was always a great in ring performer and very talented and underrated on the mic up to that point but it wasn't until he debuted with the millennium clock on WWE and they started letting him be himself and show that he was too cool for WCW and had him go over Triple H that one time that he started to really show that he had something. If it weren't for winning the Undisputed Title and beating the Rock and Stone Cold in the same night I don't even know where his career would have turned out by this point. Maybe he'd be in TNA now or fully retired and doing his own thing with Fozzy.

But why not?
-Chris Jericho was not a draw
-Time Warner Merger left the company in the hands of guys who didn't care about wrestling
-Nobody bought smaller wrestlers as main eventers
-Chris Jericho is not a draw
-The WWF had gained an unstoppable amount of momentum
-He was barely over at the time and people did not pay to see him
-Nobody gives a rat's ass about "Good wrestling"
-WCW was so far in debt no amount of new stars could save them
-Russo and Bischoff would screw his booking up the same way they did Goldberg
-Chris Jericho never will be a draw

He may have been pretty funny on the mic. He made have been a "good wrestler" (a subjective term with no consistency or real meaning). But to ever say he could compete against Austin, Rock, DX, is laughable. If Sting, Hogan, Goldberg, NWO, etc couldn't save WCW, there's no way a second-rate star like Jericho could. The IWC seriously needs to hop down from Jericho's dick once in a while

No. he hadnt developed as well as he has these days. I would also like to point out that Jericho is nowhere a close second to the rock in terms of charisma...instead I suggest maybe Steve Austin? Jericho is so overated its unbelieveable.

No individual could save WCW on his/her own.

Bischoff lost the plot,Nash was a terrible booker,Russo was even worse and Sullivan's 1988 style product left remaining stakeholders bewildered. Not to mention all the unofficial bookers -- i.e the middle-aged main event club.

It might have survived had a decent booker replaced the awful Kevin Nash in October 1999.But it needed a good figurehead to replace Bischoff and keep Hogan in order.

Nothing could of saved WcW. It was in total disary at the end of its run. They just were spending to much, and then when your basiclly owned y someone who does not care for wrestling you are screwed.

Chris Jericho was not a big draw and he dosen't even come close to the biggest draws of that time. So there is no way Jericho would have saved WCW. As much as I like the guy, he just couldn't. Besides the downfall of WCW, has nothing to do with supersars. It's to do with Time Warner AOL.

No. Definitely not. However, the idea behind pushing Jericho may have. Develop new stars and push the ones that get over.
