Just wanted to throw that out there and get everyone's opinions.

We all know that Man Utd won the inaugural Premier League title in the 1992/93 season which arguably was a catalyst for their success they enjoyed for the next two decades from the onset of this title win. Aston Villa were their prime challengers in that first season and actually led the league for most of the season before tailing off at the end whereas Utd got better as the season went on and won the title.

My question is this. If Aston Villa had won the first EPL title, would things have been different? Would it have been immaterial and Utd would still have enjoyed as much success as they have? Would Villa have had that success instead and been in the position that Man Utd were in over the coming seasons? (They did have a very good side back then, Saunders and Dalian Atkinson were quite a deadly pairing up front)

What does everyone think?

no because united would have still challenged for the title, the other top teams back then were not like the the teams of today because they were not as stable due to not having as much financial power, while man u would have been fine due to fergie.

Dalian Atkinson was one of the most talented players I've seen. He could of at least played for England but ultimately he preferred a night out/partying.

Villa didn't manage to capitalize on the football boom of the mid-late 90s. Signed the wrong players at the wrong time. Signed Stan Collymore 2 years late, and then he beat up his wife. Basically didn't bring in right star names so that some kid in Milton Keynes gets a Villa shirt with said name on back. That's how you get as big/get as much revenue as clubs like Arsenal/Liverpool etc. Well there are sugar daddy super duper rich chairmen around now so like with Man City you never know.

Anyway, about the first season it could have been a bit different, but Villa had some high finishes a few years after that anyway. Big time downer moment was when Dwight Yorke left for Man Utd. :bozza
