Well this thread sure is a rollercoaster...."Meltzer says that Mark Briscoe isn't allowed on TV"...."Advertised Dynamite match shows that he is allowed". I was just about to rant on WBD.. lol

It's the right thing to do obviously. Let the man that just lost his brother be on Dynamite and Rampage going forward. Not allowing Jay Briscoe on TV for something that he said a decade ago was dumb and sadly the man really didn't get much chance of being in front of AEWs audience (other than the ROH PPVs) because of that.

People use policy to refer to a simple stance on things all the time, they don't have to codify it and put it in a company wide handbook.

Tony certainly wasn't asking Mark to wrestle last week, don't be silly, but he obviously wanted to do more as evidenced by the tribute show they were forced to sandwich in between Dynamite and Rampage.

So what changed that they're allowed to honor Jay with what I'm assuming will be a 10 bell salute, a video package and someone or a few people giving an address, because something obviously changed, one of those things possibly being an already less strict stance on Mark being waived -- because SRS also just tweeted this

"I'm told the new bosses at WBD gave AEW the permission to book Mark Briscoe on Dynamite." almost like they didn't have permission previously
Or almost like they never asked previously.

There was not one single report ever before Dave today/last night (not sure when the WOR video was shot) saying Mark Briscoe could not wrestling on AEW TV. He never mentioned it, never reported it … and literally almost the minute he does it’s announced that Mark Briscoe is indeed wrestling on AEW TV.

There was no policy. They didn’t want Jay on their TV network, which sucks but that’s not the same as saying they wouldn’t allow his brother.

The tribute thing is a completely different report. I’m talking about Mark wrestling on WBD, not in what way they could honor Jay. Two different subjects.

Meltzer was 100% wrong. Why not just accept it. You can’t deny his own words on video.

Why not just accept that plans change like they clearly did here lol.

WBD is drawing way more attention to this crap than is even necessary at this point. How many people would even know what the Briscoes said in the past if they didn't keep enforcing the ban? I still don't even know what they said, but the general consensus is that they were extemely apologetic about it in recent years so what's the issue?
Jay back in 2013 tweeted he'd 'shoot anyone who told his kids gay marriage was OK' - his account was quickly deactivated. He publicly apologised and donated his next two ROH pay days to anti hate charities. Jay was nothing but contrite about what he tweeted, didn't shy away from his tweet, went on sensitivity training, made no excuses and didn't want fans to think they couldn't support the Briscoes because these weren't views he held.

Jim Cornette, admittedly not the best advocate for these sorts of matters, said Jay made the tweet on a day he was lagged out with travel, there was a large gay marriage protest in the town Jay was wrestling in which irritated/inconvenienced him, he was partly in gimmick and he's a strong Christian. Cornette called it the '$1 million tweet' because it ended the interest WWE had in signing the Briscoes.

Was enough of one that according to SRS they had to grant permission.
According to SRS, he could have wrestled on WBD before but not Jay, and he probably didn’t want to do it if they were keeping Jay off.

SRS never reported that Mark Briscoe was banned.

Only Dave did that … right before AEW announced he was wrestling on TV this week lol.

Your guy was wrong. It’s your dime (or rather $11.99) but just let Dave take his L.

None of that really excuse what he said though. Not that you said/were arguing that. Just saying in a general sense.

PWInsider saying this won't be a one-off and that AEW plans to use Mark on an ongoing basis. Great news. Not sure what his ceiling is exactly as Jay was the better of the two, but he's very talented himself. A tag team with someone like Archer could be really good.

Trios match Mark Briscoe+FTR vs The Elite would make Dave run out of stars

Other than that, in the wrestling world at large, I think that Mance Warner would be the ideal tag partner for Mark, if he wants to keep doing tags. Or you could pair him with Ortiz, who is a divorced tag team wrestler at the moment. (unless he re-unites with Santana)

Duh

I straight up said this didn't pass the logic test for me and 24 hours later it hasn't passed the logic test.

A lot of people's instincts in this thread said to reject the source... so reject the source then, don't believe it in the absence of other evidence

It's like people prefer to be believe in stories whenever there's something unknown about this world...

Huh.. just heard an interview with TK saying "I fought hard to make it happen" referring to the Lethal/Mark Briscoe match. Why would he need to fight hard to make it happen if Mark could have wrestled before?

If Dave is guilty of anything it's having impeccably shit timing.

Happy that they came to their senses and is allowing Mark on AEW, still unclear if he was actually banned or if it was just Jay, but either way I'm happy for Mark.

I couldn't even imagine doing what he's going to do tomorrow a week removed from the passing of my brother. Hope it's not a one time deal and that Mark becomes part of the AEW locker room while also competing for ROH.

Trust me, most of these executives don't really care about this shit and aren't truly down with the cause. Most of what they do is loud proclamations to keep the online mobs from going crazy.
I know this from personal experience

The potential of backlash is extremely threatening. The accusers holding your image hostage generally don't respond when you've satisfied their demands. It's usually silence, so the threat lingers indefinitely. Even if you've cleared up a potentially damaging issue, those looming clouds rarely disappear from the sky.

It's unfair, but perception is reality and you're dealing with perception terrorists. However, not everyone is fake about it... Stockholm syndrome is real ;)

Look, we can talk openly about this.

His brother should have long since been forgiven for whatever stupid tweet he sent out a decade ago. Everybody should have moved on. Unfortunately, modern woke culture, which a lot of you people applaud, demands that you be crucified for any mistake you've ever made in your life. What's worse, Mark was part of a tag team and is now infinitely less marketable as an individual. Put it all together, and it's not completely outrageous that network folks wouldn't be interested.
I don't understand how woke jackoffs can hold such a grudge over something from ten damn years ago. Bad enough they look for shit to be offended about, but goddamn.
