Just wonder why Hogan is the biggest star ever? Bigger then Rock, Austin & hart. Ok i regret Hart. Think hes way overrated as a big superstar. Many of us in sweden never liked him or even cared about him.

He built the WWE and then when everyone thought he was done he came back and almost took it down. He was responsible for the two major boom periods in N. American wrestling history.

Poor taste. Same reason why Citizen Kane always beats The Godfather in the critics list of best movies ever and why The Beatles are bigger than any music group in history.

Pretty much this.

No Hogan (or someone of equal drawing ability) = No national expansion of the WWF.
No Hogan = No credible nWo = No Monday Night Wars.

Stupid answer, sorry.

Btw. Its sick and nice to see that the wwe section is smarter and more respectful to Hogan than the TNA iwcs

It's the right answer. He's the biggest star ever because he was able to dupe people into making him the most over star ever. Has nothing to do with talent whatsoever.

He didn't 'build' anything. That was all Vince who built HIM up to become what he became. Now, the reason Hogan is the biggest star is because he was the first Face Wrestler to be marketed outside of pro wrestling post territorialism and national TV structure. He basically set the benchmark for which everyone else followed. Whether or not anyone surpassed his successes in film and television or not, you cannot take away the historical fact that he was the first. Therefore, Rock or Austin or Cena or whomever goes on to make it in films will always be 'indebted' to Hogan, even if Hogan had absolutely nothing to do with their success, therefore placing him 'above' them. Sad, but true.

He's a talentless, overpushed asshole... the only reason he's considered "great" was because he shined in a bullshit era and was able to garner fans because of his american gimmick.. something anyone could've done, even a blindfolded, sleeping, stuck in the basement Stevie Wonder could've done it better then his monkey ass.

His charisma and character got over for the times.

because there was no real competition to WWE back in the late 80's (no mma, no NWO era WCW) more people watched WWE I guess.

People don't like him for "not putting people over" but then the world doesnt work like that does it, everyone tries to defend their spot to some extent, and the guys that didnt get "put over" by hogan should of been able to put themselves over anyway

lol we're all the same no matter what section of the site you are on. Don't start spreading this bs around just because you got your feeling hurt in the TNA section.

I'm curious as to what you mean by 'bullshit era'.

He's the biggest star ever because he raised the bar and elevated the sport to previously unseen heights. The fact that it's even up for debate is ridiculous. As far as this particular discussion is concerned, no other choice is valid. Hulk Hogan propelled Wrestling into the mainstream consciousness. Austin and Rock didn't do that. They didn't raise the bar. All they did was help propel Wrestling back into the mainstream after a short drought. In order for someone to surpass Hogan, they need to take it further.

The day the WWE is as popular as the NFL is the day that bar has been raised, and the superstar responsible for that change will be the one to surpass Hogan. Until then, it's Hogan. Case closed.
