Obviously this is rhetorical, as well all know the WWE clearly holds paramount commerciality and selling everything that isn't nailed down - to the detriment of actual storyline, persona and you know, the wrestling.

I noticed at HIAC how retarded it is that someone like Bray Wyatt comes out now with his own WWE t-shirt on that has the clear logo "WWE Wear" on it, and his own custom patterned pants.

I mean, Bray Wyatt is a character who is meant to be almost quasi-supernatural, lives 'on the other side', speaks in spooky rhymes, is from the swamp where he most likely has corpses in a wooden shack or something. That's what they're telling us with the way he acts, speaks and what he generally does.

Then in a complete 'fuck you' to all that great character work, they demolish the fourth wall by dressing him in his own merchandise t-shirt which has been clearly mass produced for the public. Why the fuck would Bray Wyatt, the character, wear that?

The character is not in that universe, he's not a man that is interested in material things like that. It's just a complete contradiction, and stuff like that is the reason he can't get to the next level when he should be one of their major attractions. He might as well be wearing a sign that says 'I'm for sale'.

Now guys like Cena, Miz, Jericho, it's fine for them because their character's are all showbiz and we know it, so it fits. They're all from the real world that you and I are in.

Stuff like this just shits me.

This has been the case for like 20 years now. It sells merchandise. That's literally the reasoning. And yes it looks tacky.

I actually did notice this during HIAC. He's (Bray) got such a unique gimmick/look, and even the pants, which are incredibly artistic. And then throws a BW shirt on over it. It takes you out of the product definitely. Wearing it during an entrance or promo is one thing, but during a match is so silly.

I'm curious to hear the fallout about trouble for wearing Luke Harper t-shirts Jericho posted, then he was forced to delete the post.

The main problem was it wasn't officially licensed WWE merchandise according to dirtsheet sites

It's also rumors why Luke Harper was missing from TV and Rowan took his spot. That maybe he got into a little trouble with the back over perhaps attempting to sell his own t-shirts not licensed by wwe.

But it pretty much answers your question.

WWE is shit in the ratings, So they are insane over that merchandise. New color tshirts, new logos every couple months, new addons (arm bands, bandana, scrunchie) and the tons of other shit from towels, clocks, watches, toys, etc.

they are merchandise whores.

What people don't realize, every town's mall or in their town there is a printing shop. This shop can silkscreen tshirts for you.

Go to walmart or dollar store buy a blank white/black/any color tshirt.

now go find a high resolution photo of your favorite wrestler's logo, put it on a usb thumbdrive.

go to print shop, get your 1 - 5 dollar tshirt silkscreened for 5 - 10 bucks

You can invent your own logos for tshirts.

Hell for trolling while back I went to local printing shop, brought high res Chris Benoit logos and had a "classic" Benoit shirt made.

I wore it a few times at grocery store or going into walmart and have some guy ask "where did you get that? that must be rare!"

haha

Good point lol I do think some guys are better off not wearing their merchandise. For example Seth Rollins, I like when he used to come out in the full power ranger suit instead of wearing his t shirt. I hated when Ambrose wore his merchandise and liked when he just wore the regular tank tops and sometimes his leather jacket. I just thought it looked better. Orton is better off without his t shirts as well. At the end of the day though, of course this is a business and they are trying to promote their merchandise. Bray Wyatt would probably be better off wearing his own exclusive shirt, but they won't be able to profit off of it, so it won't happen.

Quite simply put, the way I see it, branding is the death of creativity and imagination.

The thing is, if they spent more time on character enhancement for guys like Bray by not having him in his shirt destroying his credibility, they'll get more fans in to buy more merch than they would've before.

I get it, but Bray Wyatt has done nothing to show he's supernatural.. Anybody can talk the way he does and claim they're supernatural. It's not like he's risen from the grave or done anything remotely to the Undertaker in the past.. I like Wyatt, but i wouldn't say it's a 'supernatural' type character. It's more of a bizarre character.

Hey, it's better than these guys wearing other talents merchandise.. I've seen that a few times and it looks incredibly awkward. This is something that's gone on for year's, literally since the 80's.. It's funny people are bringing it up now.

Don't guys get more direct money by selling merch? Like a sort of commission?
If so I'd so Bray wears it so he can sell some damn t-shirts.

Did Macho Man wear his own shirts? Did the Big Boss man? Did Undertaker? Kane? Mankind? Goldberg? Sting? That's my point.

I like that Dean Ambrose switches between wearing his merch and not wearing it - sometimes he wears the tank tops, sometimes he wears his shirts. It must just depend on his mood lol. Plus I had :mark: moment whenever he'd come out in his hoodie cos I also own it LOL.

But it's all about the money, WWE wants fans to see the merch and want to buy it. It's that simple.
