Just a random question and correct me if I'm wrong, but for someone that clearly loves the industry, why did he not continue in some capacity within the industry outside of random appearances and the 2010 run?

Not to wrestle, obviously, but was there any reason or just a lack of care? I assume TNA wouldn't have been a shout with who was there (Russo for example), but I've seen him do things for organisations that were a lot smaller as a guest host, I suppose.

I mean, he done some stuff for organisation's that had less going for then at the time, 1PW which was essentially TNA but in the UK and WWA at least, I think.

in fairness to Bret, I believe his insurance policy did not allow him to take any bumps, which means he could not get into the ring to teach people how to wrestle, which would've been the main thing he could have contributed to the next generation.

Bret was pretty bitter about the wrestling business. On top of Owen dying, he also lost his father and former brother-in-law (British Bulldog) around the same time. Plus WWF pretty much killed all the major Canadian wrestling companies, which was the main reason he ended up in the company to begin with. I’m sure he was fine just sitting at home and raging about Goldberg, Hogan, and Eric Bischoff to anyone who bothered listening instead. 😂

Think OP was talking around the time he retired, which was in late 2000. Ironically, 2010 was when he actually made a return to on-screen wrestling. Maybe marriage motivated him to get off the couch. 😂

Lol Brets peak was during pirates, garbage men and manbull era of WWE and was in WCW he was there during the worst TV any company bar AWA at the very end.

Bret tried to get back into business in early 2000s, he was in a bunch of startups that went nowhere like WWA. He tried again in 2010s but fact is he was asking for fuck-ton of money where he had little to offer. I saw him in Rampage wrestling around 2014 and all he was able to do was ref assistant.

Like Hogan who was still available to book until very recently the business quit Bret not him quitting the business. Nobody is paying $20k an appearance and 5 star hotel and 1st class flights to performers who cannot perform no longer.

I seem to remember he did too. How ridiculous to turn HIM down of all people. Loads of vets who really know what they are doing were rebuffed by those kids who think they know better. (Blanchard, Anderson, Regal, Punk etc) It's insane. He's forgotten more about the business than their entire locker room knows.

Yes, the Bret Hart as an agent story was confirmed. To be fair, Bret's philosophy about wrestling is counter-intuitive to what AEW wants to represent with modern indy style "bangers." Bret Hart's experience on how to sell is counter-productive to getting all your shit in.

Can someone tell me why he retired in the first place? I know he got kicked in the head by Goldberg and concussed, but that kick is nothing compared to the stuff wrestlers have been through since, even ones that got told theyd have to retire only to make a successful in-ring comeback from worse sounding injuries.

its alot harder for people who were forced to retire to become a producer or something, than people who retired on their own terms.
its not easy to not be able to do something you love, and still be around it every day.
