Why Corey Graves Will Not Get Over

The answer is simple. His gimmick is so dated, it should be banned from wrestling. We've seen the bitter, disrespectful, "I deserve this because I'm that damn good" kind of heel so many times. We saw it with CM Punk, we saw it with Bret Hart, we saw it with Miz, we saw it with Chris Jericho, hell we even saw it with Stone Cold. The difference is at least they all brought something unique to the table. Corey Graves is not unique, he's very generic, his look is too similar to CM Punk and the gimmick similarities do not help. I usually hate this argument but this is 2014 and we have seen this too many times to care. If he keeps that gimmick he will be in developmental longer than Leo Kruger

Neither was Ambrose.. right before he got called up. So the possible connection is not that straightforward..

Anyway, I keep saying I'd love to see him get called up as a new Real American. I'm pretty sure that with Zeb talking and him playing the patriotic asshole ******* (I know it's a terribly outdated stereotype, but if done right it can be quite awesome/ see "justified") it could really refresh the RA dynamic. Gives him some time to adapt to the main stage being in a team, and he's the perfect guy to turn Swagger face on eventually, seeing as how he'll need to be one at some point for his inevitable feud with Rusev.

That's how I see it anyway...

I HATE when people say " Oh Corey Graves looks like Punk, he got tattoos " :fpalm

I think nobody give a shit about the dated gimmick, Graves is over with 'smart' fans cause he had a solid reputation in the Indys and for the female audience loves him cause his look screams Ovaries On Fire

Because he doesn't have a Generational Teet to suck on like Blow Dallas.

I don't understand why he's still not on the main roster. No, he's not setting the world on fire with his wrestling ability. But neither is Ryhack, FatigueSta, Big E Melatonin, etc. If wrestling ability was the main requirement for success in WWE, 2/3 of their roster wouldn't even be qualified.

He has talent in the ring and I guess it's just a matter of opinion on his mic work. I happen to not mind his work on the mic. Right now I think the best move for a talent that you want to build is the tag team division. Pair him up with a big guy. Have him paired with Baron Corbin. Both have similar looks and I think would look natural together. Graves should be on the main roster right now, but I wouldn't mind him in a tag team with Corbin in NXT for 6 months. Then make the move to the main roster and Corbin could be his body guard.

I liked him better when he was new and was silent and did that wicked submission move that would make guys cry. Like when he beat the shit out of A-Ry. That's the way he should play his character, not as a cocky heel.

I have never been big on Graves, but I wouldn't call him a shit wrestler or anything like that. The guy is like Orton without the 'God given athleticism'. Boring as fuck but they do nothing technically wrong. The other difference between them is Graves can actually talk, sell properly and consistently, and has a character, no matter how much you may dislike the character for any reason, he has one that he sticks with.

Boring? Mostly, yes.
Bad? Apart from being boring you can't honestly say he's bad.

Graves is a fantastic mic worker when it comes to using his character in promos. As far as his often used and one dimensional character goes, anyway. People are fickle and irrationally inconsistent with their lists of favourite mic workers anyway honestly.

Riley was a combination of two guys the internet, as a whole, hate. Miz and Cena.
Part of his popularity was being so similar to them, and being rumoured as the next big face, but he was newer, so he wasn't so stale and was still likeable. At least that's what I think.

Can you please stop saying "we" as if we all think the same way you do? I wouldn't mind it so much if most of your posts and opinions weren't extremely questionable and were outside the realm of what most of us believe in here.

You guys keep saying he's over with smart fans. When will you all learn? SMART FANS DO NOT MATTER!!!! If they did WWE would care what you think. How many times have guys gotten over in developmental but flopped in WWE?

He's over as a heel with you, and many other fans on here. And it's not because he's a bad wrestler, because he isn't. It's because of his heel work. 95% of 'smart fans' are just marks deep down and this forum is no different. Graves is a rare effective heel, just like Bo Dallas was.

its become more clear to me as the weeks and months pass that graves won't make it to the main roster. not a slight against him but he has been in developmental nearly 4 years now and is over 30 and wwe are cutting guys that have spent more than 3 years in developmental re: mason ryan.

with kenta, devitt etc on the way his chances have further decreased. he would make a good pickup for tna.
