I'm not talking about your favorite film. I'm talking about cinematography alone. What's the most visually stunning film you've ever seen? One that you knew took a considerable amount of time, dedication, and hard work on the part of the film's director and director of photography.

Raging Bull is my pick. What's yours?

There's a lot of stuff that deserves to be mentioned here, but even in this subject it comes down to personal preference. In this case of techniques, grading, etc...

For me personally, you can't beat the works of Wong Kar-Wai.

2001: A Space Odyssey seems too obvious but no one has mentioned it. Lots of Japanese flicks have amazing cinematography. Even their trash pink films look great. I use the word trash as a positive in this context.

2001 looks better than any other movie set in space ever made and it was released in 1968.

2001: A Space Odyssey and Raging Bull (great pick OP, couldnt agree more.)

I also need to give a shout to The Fountain and American History X as personal favorites.

All-time, well, opinions...

But, The Big Blue by Luc Besson was simply STUNNING on the big screen when I was a kid
