Almost everyday since the beginning of 2012, I'm greeted to shit like this on the front page of Reddit. Don't bother arguing that it's just one article, I can find you a couple dozen more examples from this year alone.

What is it that's triggered such mass hysteria this year? We've had the Trayvon Martin incident, the tales of cops planting evidence, and not even a few threads below me is sudden hate for Obama.

The only theory I can fathom is that since the Occupy "anarchy", police have had a wider outlook on what they can do to people, hence exploiting their bias for good ol' ******.

It's gotten to the point that I can't even think about who these souls are meant to turn to for help. We've jumped back in time 50 years. It's seems tragic to me just thinking about it.

What do you guys think?

Selective news coverage. Wouldn't read any further into it. Every country is still plagued with a certain degree of racism, America just chooses to report the bad and the ugly.

As for abuse by police: I just moved away from Seattle after 3 years. In the 3 years I was there, there were several officers caught on camera committing Police Brutality.

A cop beat a 15 year old girl, who was in a cell, senseless.

A cop punched a female on the street for arguing with him - he stopped her for jaywalking.

A group of cops were caught cursing at and using racial slurs, and kicking a Hispanic man repeatedly while he was on the ground. He was later released, as he was misidentified by police because he fit the description of a robbery suspect - which was "Hispanic Male"

As for racism in America: You can fight or educate ignorance, for the most part. We as a country will never be over or past racism until we stop self-segregating, creating political correctness nightmares, jumping to conclusions, etc.

Racism is sensationalized these days more than before in the United States because the media wants to continue to play the race card. Some people don't want a solution, they'd rather just continue to fan the flames of hatred. And to those who think political correctness is the answer...WRONG!

You're reading selective articles. As much as the media says that these acts are "disgusting" and "ignorant", they have no problem airing it on TV or having writers and whoever controls their web pages publish them. They do it because people will always listen or click on it to read. As a black person, I find it better to just ignore it. There is no point in arguing with it or wasting time trying to change the opinion of someone. America and the world as a whole will probably never be racism free. There will always be some form of it. Racism is a human thing that has gone on for centuries and it won't stop anytime soon.

I think certain media groups are being selective, and honestly for Obama's sake. He is a black president, elections are coming up soon. Getting some sympathy votes would be great.

Selective articles? That's 7 separate events, in one city, over 3 years. I think people should listen, read or click on articles about police brutality. Who could seriously think otherwise?

That's just how the world is. Especially in the US.

The Republicans are doing a good job of ruining their chances on their own.

I really wasn't referring to your post. Anyways, yes, I do believe that people should read on them but unless they really take to seeing that something is changed, it's just the same ole fuck the police/pigs and move on about your day. Besides, there are some selective topics discussed in the media and on the internet because people know that people will stop to listen or click to read. Ask yourself this; if the Trayvon Martin cause had been reversed, would it receive the attention that it has? Most likely not. I'm not saying that you shouldn't read them, but it's better to not waste your time unless you plan on doing something other than bitching about it. And, that's the problem. We just bitch about things. I love seeing protests and I sign petitions all the time. But, when it comes to racism, unless it involves authority figures or some sort of violence, people won't really pay much attention to it or act. Besides, there are far too many cases of police brutality being swept under rug. Which only leads to riots or civil unrest and worse racial tensions between the races which leads to violence and even death. People are so reluctant because nothing worth justifying is ever done. Most of the time these cops lose their badges, get a shortened sentence instead of a long one that a crime of that nature should receive, and the state and city has to pay the family. They assault for no reason and may not even get 5 years. Someone who isn't in blue does it and will probably get 10+ years(unless it's their first offense and the judge MIGHT go easy on them). What happened to the cases in your city? Were they given justifiable punishments or were they given a slap on the wrist?

Sadly, it isn't really recent, it's been happening for a long time, and it happens all over the world. We obviously hear about it more because we live in North America and America itself only cares mostly about American news.

I have to say, though....people are very quick to talk smack about 'pigs' (though it is funny how those same people will beg for an officer to help them when in trouble), but if those same people had the power the cops have....you wouldn't abuse it at all? I find that very hard to believe....not everyone would abuse power when given to them but it's almost natural to 'let it slip' once in a while and pull someone over because you can or make a big deal out of a kid smoking weed because you can.

I wouldn't doubt a large percentage of WF posters would love to flash the badge around and do a little dirty work because they can.

Found your problem. Reddit is a half step above 4chan in terms of usefulness to the world at large. It's filled with fuckwads and morons, all pushing their agendas, none of whom seem to have a fucking muzzle.

It really isn't a slip in power to arrest someone over smoking weed. It is illegal. Neither here nor there on whether it should or shouldn't be.

Cop Kicks Pregnant Woman In Stomach, Dept. Says He Was Within Policy

Dekalb County police officer Jerad Wheeler was called to a home to settle a domestic dispute involving a pregnant woman named Raven Dozier, her brother and his child and baby's mother.
Dozier was almost nine months pregnant and wound up giving birth via an emergency C-section two weeks after the kick left a bruise.
Officer Wheeler says that he couldn't tell that Dozier was pregnant and that he only kicked her because she came at him aggressively.

Couldn't tell she was pregnant, eh?

This isn't the first time Wheeler has acted questionably. In 2011, he was accused of manhandling a 53-year old woman, twisting her arm behind her back and shoving her face down into a patrol car. She says she was only trying to check on her grandchildren who had just got in a car wreck with their mother. This past January, Wheeler was accused of showing up to the wrong address when called, and then shooting that family's dog.

Wheeler is currently under criminal investigation.

Yeah recently! LA RIOTS anyone? Rodney King? Or how about Montgomery, Alabama? Although, the absolute insanity is hitting a peak as we speak.

Selective news articles? Is Vamp1ro the only one that gets the industrial military complex police state we have become. The world is headed to globalization that will be spread by a huge war that resets the population. Call it NWO, illuminati, free masons, hell call it corporate McDonalds, the problem is that the free world and governed world is going to mold and is going to become "globalized".

One ideology is going to win out or at least one form of government that runs it all. This isn't news, but the population is in denial about it. George Bush introduced the term on September 11, 1990= NEW WORLD ORDER. His son made it real on September 11, 2001. These are not conspiracies anymore.

People are not fear mongering, pulling your chain or any other ignorant rebuttals you have. The world is changing and not for the good of people because the power has been given up.

Police brutality is real no matter what people think though especially.

Compared to some countries, the racism and police brutality is pretty tame. The media loves to create much of it.

Police Claim Videotaping Police Actions Violates Wiretapping Laws

Anthony Graber, a Maryland Air National Guard staff sergeant, faces up to 16 years in prison. His crime? He videotaped his March encounter with a state trooper who pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle. Then Graber put the video — which could put the officer in a bad light — up on YouTube.
In the Graber case, the trooper also apparently had reason to want to keep his actions off the Internet. He cut Graber off in an unmarked vehicle, approached Graber in plain clothes and yelled while brandishing a gun before identifying himself as a trooper.
