This is mainly a question for the Punk superfans. Coming from a person who has actually met him, he is a dick to fans. The story goes we were at a gym and I saw Punk there doing benchpresses. I waited until he finished and his headphones were out then went up to him and said "Excuse me, are you Cm Punk?" He didn't even look at me, he put his headphones back in, drank his water, and went over to another machine (this was around 2009 or 2010). I'm obviously not the only person to have this kind of experience with him as he is a notorious douchebag.
He doesn't care about fans. It's not like I randomly took his picture, he ignored me anyway (although I was never a fan of his, but the fact that I love wrestling and he is a wrestler made me starstruck). He quit the WWE without giving anyone any kind of confirmed word to his fans, lots of you superfans who love him paid money to see him and he didn't show up. For some of you he was a big reason for watching and he just left.
He's incredibly ungrateful. He refused to respond to any form of contact by WWE (which is very childish) and was very unreasonable. Not only did WWE not take him to court for breach of contract, but they continue to pay him merchandise royalties. Stone Cold didn't receive that when he walked out and Austin was a massive draw unlike Punk. They gave him a match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania, a 400+ day title reign, nearly every title in the company. He had feuds with Cena, Rock, Edge, Undertaker (twice), HHH, Randy Orton, and other main eventers. What other wrestler can say that, yet he complains because he can't main event Wrestlemania? Most guys barely get one title in the business let alone the WWE title, let alone the WWE title for over a year. Not to mention the large amount of money WWE paid him.
There's no hypocrisy here for not judging Austin but judging Punk. Austin left because he didn't like the direction of the company or his character (going from the main event at Wrestlemania to losing the first round of the KOTR to a rookie) meanwhile Punk was spoiled and left because he would never main event Wrestlemania. But unlike Austin, Punk was never a great draw he was mediocre at best and his merch sales were average. WWE knew that too, which is why they eventually gave him a depush toward the latter half of 2013 but he was still heavily featured. Also, although he wouldn't be in the main event he still would have faced HHH at Wrestlemania which is much better than facing Scott Hall in a lower-mid card feud and a few minute match.
Now he's living the best life there is. No job, sitting at home, collecting royalty money while not even working, he's not caring about the fans who gave him everything he has, and to top it all off he's banging AJ Lee. What redeemable qualities does he have? He's incredibly smug, overrated, and although he's good in the ring he's no Benoit or Kurt Angle. I much prefer Daniel Bryan's ring technology and I'm not even a Daniel Bryan fan. Yeah he's good on the mic but I never found him entertaining. A lot of what he said got stale after his first few months as the corporate renegade and those "pipebombs" didn't have as much flare as before.
So my question is what makes you superfans continue to praise him? If anything I have said is untrue please call me on because I fail to see anything great about him.
