This is mainly a question for the Punk superfans. Coming from a person who has actually met him, he is a dick to fans. The story goes we were at a gym and I saw Punk there doing benchpresses. I waited until he finished and his headphones were out then went up to him and said "Excuse me, are you Cm Punk?" He didn't even look at me, he put his headphones back in, drank his water, and went over to another machine (this was around 2009 or 2010). I'm obviously not the only person to have this kind of experience with him as he is a notorious douchebag.

He doesn't care about fans. It's not like I randomly took his picture, he ignored me anyway (although I was never a fan of his, but the fact that I love wrestling and he is a wrestler made me starstruck). He quit the WWE without giving anyone any kind of confirmed word to his fans, lots of you superfans who love him paid money to see him and he didn't show up. For some of you he was a big reason for watching and he just left.

He's incredibly ungrateful. He refused to respond to any form of contact by WWE (which is very childish) and was very unreasonable. Not only did WWE not take him to court for breach of contract, but they continue to pay him merchandise royalties. Stone Cold didn't receive that when he walked out and Austin was a massive draw unlike Punk. They gave him a match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania, a 400+ day title reign, nearly every title in the company. He had feuds with Cena, Rock, Edge, Undertaker (twice), HHH, Randy Orton, and other main eventers. What other wrestler can say that, yet he complains because he can't main event Wrestlemania? Most guys barely get one title in the business let alone the WWE title, let alone the WWE title for over a year. Not to mention the large amount of money WWE paid him.

There's no hypocrisy here for not judging Austin but judging Punk. Austin left because he didn't like the direction of the company or his character (going from the main event at Wrestlemania to losing the first round of the KOTR to a rookie) meanwhile Punk was spoiled and left because he would never main event Wrestlemania. But unlike Austin, Punk was never a great draw he was mediocre at best and his merch sales were average. WWE knew that too, which is why they eventually gave him a depush toward the latter half of 2013 but he was still heavily featured. Also, although he wouldn't be in the main event he still would have faced HHH at Wrestlemania which is much better than facing Scott Hall in a lower-mid card feud and a few minute match.

Now he's living the best life there is. No job, sitting at home, collecting royalty money while not even working, he's not caring about the fans who gave him everything he has, and to top it all off he's banging AJ Lee. What redeemable qualities does he have? He's incredibly smug, overrated, and although he's good in the ring he's no Benoit or Kurt Angle. I much prefer Daniel Bryan's ring technology and I'm not even a Daniel Bryan fan. Yeah he's good on the mic but I never found him entertaining. A lot of what he said got stale after his first few months as the corporate renegade and those "pipebombs" didn't have as much flare as before.

So my question is what makes you superfans continue to praise him? If anything I have said is untrue please call me on because I fail to see anything great about him.

You had a bad experience with the guy and that's fair enough if you don't like him because of it. I'm personally a big Punk fan but I don't care if he's a dick in real life. He entertained me on television and that's all that really matters, whether Punk cares about me or not is a complete non factor.

If I was famous and somebody came up to me whilst I was working out I would ignore you too, It's not a social event where he has to communicate with you at all. Move on.

I wish he had said something but he did on Twitter just before the Rumble. That's enough and the wheel kept on turning. He owes me nothing.

You're assuming he has had no contact with the WWE, you are also suggesting you know his contract? Maybe when he resigned he was promised a WM main event before his contract ends? Who has breached it now? Don't assume.

I lost interest towards the end of your post as you're whining a little bit. You assume to much when nobody really knows what happened and this may all be one big work.

Re: What Makes You Care About Cm Punk?

I am sure Cm Punk is not such a nice guy in real life but that means jack shit to me at the end of the day. My only concern is if he entertained me on T.V. and yes he sure did. I miss Cm Punk the entertainer. I could give jack shit about him the person.

I wish he did come back cause the product deeply misses him on it. From his great promos to in ring matches. Etc.

Btw I can understand why punk is so snarky towards people because it's like who the fuck wants to be bothered. The man wants to have his own life and not have fans come up to him out of no where and bother him. I don't blame him on that note.

Re: What Makes You Care About Cm Punk?

I have no idea nor care about his personna outside the ring. All I know is that his in-ring character is the most entertaining character I've seen since 2005 in the WWE. His dedication to the business and his wrestling psychology is something I respect truly and agree with him. He knows how to capture the moment, how to talk on the mic and his matches/promos are always fun and unpredictable (to me).

Him leaving the company was a wrong move business wise, but I understand him. I can probably guess what went through his head because of how poorly the Road to Wrestlemania 30 was being booked. I still want him to return because he's the guy that brought me back to the WWE and wrestling in general.

I knew that would happen. I knew that someone would use me having a bad experience with him as an excuse for not liking him. I had an even worse experience with HBK but I love him. That's completely irrelevant, I just used that as an example of how he treats fans

This question is obviously not for me since I'm the furthest thing from a Punk fan, let alone superfan. But the biggest surprise in OP was finding out that Punk was actually inside a gym. :lol

I don't see his attitude as being a huge prick or anything, I see him as a regular person who has been put into an abnormal situation of having to deal with celebrity status even though it's not necessarily something he ever wished for.

I'm sure he enjoys the money involved but this guy was putting on 60-minute matches in ROH in front of small audiences so he clearly cares about wrestling and giving the fans their money's worth. What he does outside the ring is his own personal business unless it's a paid media appearance or something.

Well for 1 he dissed the attitude era.
For 2 he would have NEVER EEEEEEEVER made it in the attitude era, the ONLY reason he is so popular is because he has an attitude and according to you guys he says whatever he wants
He stands out because nobody on the roster actually play's a badass attitude era style character and WWE dont let characters be badasses. They want them do dance like fairies and please there 9 year old fans.

If people enjoy the thing's he does then fine I don't have a problem with you. But when some of you comment with something so ignorant that I cant even tell if you're trolling then I'm going to say something."

Well thank you for being one of the few mature responses. I've come to expect the worst on the internet but still. I figured most of the people who would say it was all my fault for interrupting his workout (which if they read I waited until he finished to go up to him, it was a good 10 minutes before he moved to another machine).

Re: What Makes You Care About Cm Punk?

Yes, he's a huge dick/asshole outside of the ring. I've posted my story too often to feel like doing it again. But I recently learned that my dad's father is some sort of delivery person who has delivered to Punk's front door numerous times.

This guy would be like, "Well how's it going, Mr. Punk?" and Punk would TOTALLY ignore him. As far as I'm concerned, that's grounds for being called a dick, even if you're not famous. Please don't defend him because he's a celebrity. It comes with the territory, he knows what to expect and common courtesy is not an inconvenience to ANYONE. It's simply expected behavior in a civil, public space. If you don't like it but ALSO mind being called an asshole then say inside.

As a wrestler, he's cool though.

Re: What Makes You Care About Cm Punk?

It's as simple as the fact that he entertains me far more than anyone else on the roster, and has for quite some time. He may be an asshole in real life, for all I know, but that doesn't really bother me. Plus, I can kind of relate to him and his general annoyance with "people", in general. But I don't really blame him for his attitude, at the end of the day. Are there guys that have coped better than him? Sure, Daniel Bryan is an example of a guy who's had it worse but has remained humble and continued working through it. But Punk is a guy who's worked his ass off for years, and consistently delivered great promos and physically demanding matches for the fans. And while he's continuously proven to be the best overall wrestler in the world, b/c, news flash, wrestling is not solely about in-ring skill, he's still been passed up by the WWE at times like when Rock/Cena II was on last year. And they very well had fucked him over this year if they gave HHH to Bryan b/c Batista/Orton was the Main match scheduled and the crowd didn't like it. So I can see where his frustrations could lie.

And I feel like you're underrating him, OP. I'd say he's better than Angle in the ring, Angle happens to be overrated in hat regard, IMO. Lots of his matches are extremely spotty and lack any sort of psychology, but that's not to say he hasn't had absolutely great matches. Punk's great in the ring, on the mic, and is charismatic. So a wrestler, he's damn good.

Basically, I like him as a wrestler, and that's what matters to me.

By the way, if you're an anti-Punk mark who wants to quote my post and talk about how Punk sucks or didn't deserve anything, fuck off, don't do it. I'm not arguing he should have, for sure, just my opinion. It's fine for you to reply OP, just don't want to argue with anyone.

Re: What Makes You Care About Cm Punk?

FAKE STORY. We all know he doesn't benchpress or lift weights :D

Nah, the thing is that if we had to be a fan of those wrestlers who don't have weird stories about them being a dick at some point, we would be reduced to be a fan of who?, not many really, since there are stories about everyone.

The way wrestlers behave out of the ring, never really mattered to me that much. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate what guys like DDP or Cena do out of the ring. But I like CM Punk's work as a wrestler, so I support him. If he rustled some marks jimmies because he didn't sign an autograph or he didn't take a photo, I couldn't care less.

I don't care if he cares about the fans or not, I am entertained by him as he is a fantastic talker and a great ring worker, he is also an intelligent man and a fascinating person even outside of pro-wrestling, that's all I need to know about him.

I'm not one of those fans that that gets emotionally attached to my favorite stars, I get how incredibly irritating fans can be for them.

They're not robots, they are human beings, and some people enjoy being around people, others do not...he is clearly of the latter mindset.

Re: What Makes You Care About Cm Punk?

Probably has something to do with the people who dislike Punk & their obsession with constantly making topics about him even after he's gone?

But seriously, this forum is full of rude, foul mouthed individuals who curse each other out in rants & fuck with each other just for the fun of it. CM Punk's rudeness should blend right in with most people here. :lol

I've never cared for an athlete, entertainer etc. as far as their personal lives go, because I feel like we all have skeletons & demons in the closet. We all have dirt, so I'm not gonna praise a guy for his apparent kindness or charity when the reality is he could be a terrible human being. By most accounts Punk is such a terrible person blah blah but unless you're in the guys everyday personal life, you don't know. Hell, even though we're all close to our friends & such - we still don't really "know" them.

So I don't judge, because I come across like a rude prick to a lot of people as well. To my parents, my girlfriend, my sister etc. I'm a great person, but the world will probably not remember me as such. Which is fine, but that's how life works.

I separate the performer from the real man. I love Ghostface Killah, does that mean I love Dennis Coles? Nope, I don't know the man & even if I met Ghost once, I still don't know him. As a performer, I love Punk. Love the gimmick, love what he has brought to the ring the last decade +. Do I love Phil Brooks? Don't know him & will never be involved with him personally, so I don't care?

Wrestling fans are obsessive by nature & like to take into accounts all this outside the ring bullshit when the only thing I care about is the performance art. I have my own life & I'm not concerned with other people's real lives either.

Some of us just like pricks as well, good Lord the guy in my sig is probably 10x the douche that CM Punk is, who knows?
