Be darned if I know? They ban the piledriver for like 20 years,The Undertaker can't Tombstone people but here comes Rey Mysterio giving people Canadian Destroyers?

The Undertaker still uses the Tombstone as far as I know?

I thought the stance on Piledrivers was that Legends can preform them in big matches, which doesn't explain why they are being used on Smackdown, but WWE obviously has trust in Rey and Andrade in performing the move safely.

The Canadian Destroyer probably won't be used against many other guys.

WWE banned the tombstone from other wrestlers because they want it exclusive to the brother's of destruciton.

WWE banned piledrivers because while most wrestlers are strong enough to hold someone in position, very few can perform one safely. It looks deceptively easy and WWE doesn't want wrestlers trying it.

The Canadian Destroyer is in the same boat as the Tombstone. It's hard and they'll allow only a handful of the wrestlers to try it. But, it's so hard, only a handful of wrestlers would try it.

Best answer. WWE never banned Taker from doing Tombstones. Only Kane & Taker are allowed to do the "tombstone" variation due to their height.

The regular sit-down piledrivers were concussing people and breaking necks. Usually you can immediately tell when someone has botched it. It's ugly.

This is probably the textbook version of the right way to give/take the move. Notice the placement of the hands of the guy taking the move. His arms aren't wrapped under the guy's thighs.

The Canadian Destroyer is safer. It's the difference between doing a handstand and a somersault.

With a piledriver, you're spiking a dude down on the top of his head. The objective of course is to not actually drop him on his head, but it can happen.

With a Canadian Destroyer, the person giving is essentially doing a sunset flip and the person taking is rolling through the motion backwards. If they under-rotate, the person taking doesn't come close to landing on their head. If they land normally or even over-rotate, the person taking is mostly rolling through the motion, so even if they land on their head, the momentum should be carrying them forward instead of spiking them downwards. There's more room for error because the botches are less dangerous.

One's impactful and serious. The other one's completely ludicrous to take seriously and kills suspension of disbelief because why the fuck would your opponent jump and do a move with you? It's even worse in Adam Cole's case because why would your opponent bend down, stay bent down, stay in the same position, and then do a move with you. One of, if not the, worst moves in wrestling.

I admit, that my taste in wrestling goes more for the theatrical than the realistic (I quite like Johnny Surname's C4 for instance), but even I think the Canadian Destroyer is a crap move.
Thanks, I hate it. It's honestly probably the worst. Other than shit that is crazy dangerous like the Phoenix plex, I can't think of a worse move
See I could see breaking out something like the Phoenix Plex as a once in blue moon ultimate finisher like Kenta does The Burning Hammer because that looks absolutely devastating (because it is crazy dangerous like the burning hammer)there is never a reason to use a Canadian destroyer. Admittedly that might be my love of bridging suplex variations clouding my judgement.

I think the general ban on those moves is more to keep the less skilled guys from trying moved their skill level does not allow them to perform safely. The Pile driver is just dropping a guy on his head while the Canadian destroyer is much more flashy but accomplished the same goal, dropping someone on their head. Guys like Undertaker and Kain long term reliable guys trusted by the company and have a record of not making mistakes in the ring with the move. The Canadian Destroyer or the Panama Sunrise is much more skillful an athletic move that cannot be done by some wrestlers. Technically sound wrestlers like Mysterio, Andrade and Adam Cole can pull off the flashy moves without injuring others. Cole probably had to get permission for that though.
