My guess is that they had him go over Jeff, so that he could be used as a somewhat credible jobber to stars, with no intention of giving him a further push.
what happened with matt hardy?
im not talking about that dome he carries on his front...but i was under the impression that he was gonna get pushed after Jeff Hardy put him over at Wrestlemania 25 but he stayed in the exact same place if not slipping even further into obscurity...

He got injured, which killed the momentum of the feud. What happened after he came back was just plain strange though.

He broke his wrist after taking a bump in Backlash so his push slowed on Raw, then his intestine burst and so did his push. He returned a babyface, probably to get a push after Jeff left but WWE realized he was fatter than ever so they just jobbed the fuck out of him.

He became addicted to the internet, had to go to rehab, he merely replaced his addiction with grapes. Sad story IMO.
