What happened with Doc & Gordy in WCW in '92

Dr. Death & Terry Gordy had a good run in 1992 winning both the NWA and WCW Tag Team Titles, and were on a roll, then lost the belts out of nowhere to Dustin and Barry Windham. Then by Halloween Havoc, Gordy was gone, and by the end of the year Doc was gone.

Why didn't they last longer, was it just that they wanted to go back to Japan?
