What happened to Stephanie Vaquer?

She's pretty much been off TV since she won the Battle Royale in July (?), then they cancel her contract signing with Iyo last night with the title match being in less than 2 weeks. Is she secretly injured or something? Why did they pull her? Did I miss something? I thought they loved her, I was certain they were all in on her when she initially transitioned to the main roster.

Iyo vs Vaquer is pretty much gonna happen at Palooza with no build, much like Cena/Lesnar is, they had 2 weeks before the show and now it kinda seems like they're gonna just keep her off TV until the PLE. What's going on with her really?

If it's an injury it would have to be a pretty serious injury if she can't even show up to promote the match.

Yet if they are still advertising the match then it can't be that serious.

If it was scheduled time off then she shouldn't have been advertised for Paris, or the show last night.

So the most likely scenario is that they're setting up a Carmen Sandiego gimmick.

In all seriousness... Hope she's okay :(

Where in the world is Stephanie Sandiego? Where on earth can she be?? See now, I can't not picture her that way. lol

I think Triple H thinks it's against the law to book any ESL wrestler well, and he's already made his choice as to which one that is, so everything is about Iyo and all the others are slowly eroding.

I have no other explanation. Apparently she's going to be on.....fucking NXT of all things tonight, so it can't be an injury.

It's so obvious Iyo is winning this WrestlePalooza match it hurts. I wish we could just fast forward to when she loses it at WrestleMania 42 to AJ Lee already.....and looking forward to that in itself hurts, but this Iyo push is just.....ughh. As an Asuka fan, it's killing me inside.

I think they already gave the visual of what they wanted for AJ, she’s gonna beat Becky for the IC title and defend against Roxanne at Mania. I think Iyo will probably just face Rhea again at Mania assuming Vaquer doesn’t win the Rumble, and if they take her off TV again when she loses to Iyo at Palooza then those chances are slim. And if Vaquer is actually booked for NXT tonight then wow Hunter.

The problem with Stephanie, and every non-native English speaker besides Asuka, is they can’t build feuds. They can wrestle great, they can look great, but unless you’re just fucking great at everything like Asuka, if you don’t speak the language well (and Stephanie is the weakest at this) you can’t book a proper feud for them.

I don’t wanna sound like a xenophobic dick here, but realistically, how would a Iyo / Stephanie contract signing go? Fucking horribly, that’s how.

That’s a good point, but there are certainly ways around it. Standards can’t be so low in WWE that we’re accepting no build whatsoever just because they’re not native English speakers.

Use subtitles. Get a moderator. Have them brawl backstage. Put them in a tag match. Have Asuka and Kairi jump her. Create dissension and tell a story in the ring. Anything. Don’t just give up and take her off the show for almost 2 months because you can’t understand her duolingo.

I can live without a contract signing but I can’t accept zero build at all and still look at HHH as even having a 5% competence level. It’s just laziness and lack of creative imagination.

They maybe didn't know exactly how to involve Stephanie in the drama that Iyo is involved in with Asuka because Asukas been going around being jealous of others being nice to Iyo. They maybe wanted to keep Stephanie and Asuka apart because Stephanie vs. a lot of women there would be an interesting feud and match, not something to end up doing in passing. So they kept her off the show while they wiggle their way through whatever they are building toward between Iyo, Asuka and Rhea.

The whole things been a mess because of Naomi getting pregnant. I don't necessarily think that they have given up on Stephanie. They are just being cautious on where exactly they use her all the way up to this match and the language barrier I am sure has something to do with it.

Creatively, that's worse, though. It's great she's healthy, but at least if she was hurt, that would adequately explain why her booking has been so haphazard. She's healthy, though, so that means that they're deliberately making a choice not to feature her, and they can't figure out any way to hype up a world title match on PPV with her in it, or even just give her a role on tv.

Well, she’s healthy, so that’s good.

But man, oh man, I just do not give a single fuck about Stephanie Vaquer. Besides looking good and having some good matches in NXT, I can’t bring myself to be hyped when the biggest thing she has to offer right now is the Devil’s Kiss and I can’t even enjoy it half as much without Gooner T’s commentary hyping it up. I see no favors in her going over IYO Sky, so I hope she’s able to sink her teeth into something interesting for the sake of her character because right now, it’s just not clicking for me

What character? I like Steph she's a talented wrestler but doesn't have a character and has the performance range of an empty box of Count Chocula. It's not just a matter of having nothing to sink her teeth into it's a matter of being unable to handle her end of a feud when not wrestling. Say what you will about Iyo's work between matches(and mileage will certainly vary) but at least she fucking TRIES. This is pro wrestling, at the best of times the acting rises to dinner theatre in Twin Falls, Idaho levels. All you can ask is that people try.

I could be wrong but Steph having barely been on TV in the last 2 months despite having locked up a world title shot certainly seems like an indication that they don't have a ton of faith in her abilities outside the ring at the moment.

Yeah, the idea that it’s just her inability to speak English, and that’s she off on some Duolingo crash course, would be weird. They long ago started using video package promos with subtitles, so why not here?

Besides, while I appreciate it is a much larger, maybe tougher, certainly less hardcore audience on Raw, not being able to speak English didn’t stop her becoming the single most over act on the NXT show. Just let her out there and let her go. It worked for Iyo. She may not be as spectacular as Iyo in the ring, but she is spectacular in other ways that work too.
