I remember last year or so he was back to commentating on RAW again and then he randomly was gone the next week, so what happened? I'm trying to think and I don't remember him getting fired or written off tv

HHH and Jim Ross are good friends and whenever you see him back its likely because it had something to do with Jim Ross. HHH appreciates that he is a great commentator that adds a special exciting touch to commentary. He also respects him as a booker and great talent spotter as Jim Ross knows what hes talking about, I believe it was him who spotted and signed The Rock.

On the other hand Vince McMahon cant stand Jim Ross, at every opportunity he gets he humiliates him, in the ring, out of the ring and backstage. He hires and fires him all the time messing him about, then when he does bring him back its usually to humiliate him.
I think the reason VInce doesn't like him is because he feels so threatened by him Jim Ross is multi talented and has done some great work as a booker and as a commentator. VInce doesn't like anything much that wasn't his creation hence the reason a lot of the WCW roster was buried and the reason Sting never jumped ships.

All in all the way Vince treats Jim Ross is awful.

When HHH takes over more maybe we shall see Jim Ross more.

Vince can't handle the fact that there's a better wrestling mind in the company then him. Drives him nuts. I'll be glad when Triple H is running things cause he's apparently really good friends with JR and is always rallying for him to come back to commentate. Hopefully he can appoint him permanently when he gets the top position.

I'd bet my Mustang that Triple H is responsible for Ross announcing NXT. He appreciates Ross' ability to recognize and highlight young talent, and though many of the guys on the new and improved NXT are pretty bland, Ross makes them feel like stars.

Unless they turn The King back into a heel annoucer, get him the hell out and put JR in his place!

RAW- JR (face) and King (heel)
Smackdown- Michael Cole (heel), Booker T (face/comedy), and Josh Matthews (face)

I don't think we'll ever see the King turn heel ever again, he obviously enjoys playing the face card and he is getting on a bit.

Vince doesn't like him, maybe its because JR calls the action in the matches and doesn't just tell stories, and try to get himself over more then the wresters in the ring, like the Cole and King do. JR still does nxt but you can see he's only there to scout the the talent they have.
