What do you see in Penta?

I ask this because I have mostly skipped his segments since his debut. I already had an opinion of him from his Lucha Underground days that he is overpushed for a guy with his body build, he spams Cero Miedo and his arm breaker killing off opponents is too much to take.

In WWE, there is no backstory to his character(or if there was one, I might have missed it). He comes off like he is living in a fantasy universe of his own in his head. Then he adds that stupid walk which I find annoying too. After a long while, I gave a fair chance to the guy and he had a great match with Seth Rollins yesterday.

Throughout his career, he has been a crowd favourite and he is fairly popular in WF too. That’s why the thread to understand his popularity better and what do you see his ceiling to be?

I loved the Lucha Bros in AEW, they put on great matches that entertained me. Penta was always my favorite of the two, I think he’s an awesome character all around.

He is in his 40’s and he’s “new” still in WWE so not sure how high they’ll let him go but if he was ever made WWE champ, I don’t think I would be surprised. IMO I think he’s better in the mid card.

Knew this response was coming 😂

I also liked Lucha bros in action, more for Ray Fenix’s insane moves though.

I hope they get them back together as the Lucha Bros at some point and honestly wtf is with Penta losing a lot lol yikes

The man does that walk for our sins and then takes L’s.

I think Lucha bros will happen eventually once creative runs out of ideas for them. I see Penta possibly winning a midcard title before that. Andrade/Fenix team would have lost all the mileage within a year surely and Fenix doesn’t seem to be as charismatic as his brother to be on his own.

Unfortunately he's now the WWE (PG, mass market) version of himself... compared to what he was in Lucha Underground.

Imagine Deadpool being re-scripted and re-edited at a PG-13 level and what sort of film that would be and what sort of character we would have gotten in that movie. This is what WWE can sometimes do to certain talent. Not all the time as HHH is moving his show to be a bit more adult.

But Pentagon Jr / Dark was very hardcore and is a different beast in WWE.

His ceiling is much like most other talent that isn't Cody, Roman and a small few others. They might fight for the title but they won't become Champion.

1.) He's got charisma in spades. How can you not feel the guy's aura?
2.) His attire and masks are always cool AF. The darkish tone and the Venom look is the best.
3.) That strut is legendary. People are gonna be doing it en masse if he ever wins the World title, which probably wont happen.
4.) Lucha Bros are incredible as a team, they really elevate each other as brothers, will never forget their cage match vs The Young Bucks in AEW. My favorite cage match of all time.
5.) He's good in the ring (he's been botching a bit lately though), and isn't as aerial as Rey Fenix, but his style pops the crowd frequently.

I've always enjoyed Penta, he's in WWE's upper mid-card so he's in a decent spot right now, he gets plenty of TV time, but they need to stop having him lose so much, you can only be bulletproof for so long especially when you're not a native English speaker.

He does look cool, I like his visuals, but his ring work is kind of just okay to sloppy but not in a good way. I bet ten years ago he was probably something crazy but right now he's at that "luchador slowly coming to terms with his rapidly diminishing mobility" age.

No offense to you because I do not know you but only morons and kids actually think this way

There are marketing teams in corporate offices who hope that people are so stupid that they will buy anything that has "pizaazz" or an "aura". Those are nice words to ensure that the consumer remains stupid and doesn't understand what they are buying

It is why sponsorships are used, why if you put Dwayne Johnson on a bag of chips it will sell better. They are manipulation tactics that do not actually make a product any better. You just think they do because marketing evaluators are trained to condition you to think that way

Penta is not a complex character. I don't think there could possibly be anything you're missing. The taunt spamming is a core part of the act.

It's obvious that Penta is heavily inspired by the classic luchador La Parka, who one might remember from WCW.

I think the bit here is that if you are in the audience, it is fun to participate in Penta's shenanigans.

both posts pretty much sum it up except while I like the strut I just don't get noodle legs from it
