Yokozuna's title reign was boring, imo. He wasn't an interesting heel. Nash takes shit for his 95 reign, but Yoko's was still worse.

Bret Hart ended both their reigns, and it was a breath of fresh air each time.

I liked Diesel's reign better, but it's kind of like comparing two turds and trying to decide which one smells worse. I didn't care for Diesel, but I thought Yokozuna was the absolute shits on just about every level. Terrible look, terrible character, and I can't think of a single match of his that I liked. IMO, he's easily the 2nd worst WWE champion of my lifetime, with only the Miz being worse.

Diesel. I have always been a fan of Kevin Nash.

Interesting fact though. Nash and HBK vs Yoko and Owen with all the belts on the line was in my home town. I wasn't there as I was like 6, but still plan on watching it on the Network.

Yokozuna. He mad much more interesting opponents and a clear trajectory to his reign. When Diesel was a face champ going into WrestleMania to wrestle HBK, I just felt like the WWF was completely directionless and didn't know what to do with Diesel. Then, the terrible Sid feud hit and I'd really asked myself why I even cared anymore.

I didn't know why Diesel was champion, I thought Sid turning on HBK made no sense, and HBK and Diesel becoming buddies again after feuding was also pretty dumb.

Yokozuna had decent feuds with Lex Luger and The Undertaker and you knew he was on his way to dropping the title at WrestleMania 10, and he served his purpose perfectly to get the belt over. With Diesel, I was just waiting for it to end.

Re: What Did You Prefer- Diesel's title reign or Yokozuna's?

I'm one of the few who is (or will admit to being) a fan of Kevin Nash and really loved both defenses against Bret, so I'm going with him.

Honestly, Yokozuna is arguably the weakest booked champion of all time. Never won the title clean, never retained it clean but always lost it clean. Considering how he was built up prior to his first title win, WWF fucked up with him. Should have been a monster heel, not a heel who only wins due to Mr. Fuji or some other fuckery, constantly loses by countout and loses the title from his own (kayfabe) fuck ups.

With Diesel, it was a matter of WWF not booking the people around him better. They didn't have any top heels, missed out on 1 in Bigelow and don't get me started on Mabel. So, his run was effected more by his surroundings and the way they were booked, compared to Yoko's being effected by the way he was booked, which is not how a "monster heel" should be booked. He didn't have any big, clean wins after squashing Savage.

Both of those reigns were awful. Diesel/Hart at Survivor Series 95 was the best match of either of those runs but Yoko still had the better overall run, imo. He at least had a few rivalries against guys like Undertaker, Lex Luger, Hulk Hogan that I got more excited for than anything Diesel did.

Diesel by far. At least he defended it often and actually won matches clean. How does a 600-pound Sumo monster that crushes everything in his path NOT squash challengers left and right?

They booked Yoko wrong as Champ, and with the exception of Taker, he had shit challengers like Lex Luger. They booked Diesel right, but booked everyone else around him wrong.

I was a huge Diesel mark as a kid, but I agree that it's like picking the lesser of two evils in comparing both reigns. 1993-1995 was just such a shit time for this company.

I loved Diesel and Yoko as a kid, i enjoyed Yoko's title reign more. Diesel was a pretty boring champion himself. He doesn't deserve the hate he get's though.

I'm going with Diesel. The character was extremely likable, as opposed to Yoko who was easy to dislike as an effective heel.

Didn't like either, but Kevin Nash is not among my favorite wrestling personalities, so I'll go with the lesser (wow) of two evils - Yokozuna.

Also, Yokozuna killed HULKAMANIA, BROTHER so bonus points for that.

Yoko. No contest.

He was kind of an accidental champion. Hogan was supposed to beat him at KOTR and then put over Bret at Summerslam. That fell through, we got the Lex Express flop, Taker had to go on hiatus with injury and it all led to Vince having his first heel champion with a sustained reign. With how little went according to plan, Yoko did a decent job.

Diesel just didn't work as a face, as most wrestlers his size don't. He had a horrible ring name, couldn't work, didn't really get to show off his personality as much as he did in WCW and - worst of all - his carrying of the belt for a year was Vince's actual PLAN unlike Yoko's reign which was marred by fuckery.
