Just bought an album today that inspired me to make this thread. Just wanted to get an idea of what everyone's favourite releases have been this year and I thought this could be a fun way to share music. I'm gonna limit myself to a top five but if you want to list more, go ahead.

5) The Light by Thurkills Vision

Not a full album but this EP by Thurkills Vision was absolutely awesome. My highlights from this one are Seasons and Reality, probably two of my favourite songs from this year but this is a great listen from top to bottom.

4) Welcome to Fat City by Crobot

After their first album Something Supernatural, I was so hyped for this record and while it didn't top their debut, it smashed my expectations. These guys are most definitely one of the best hard rock acts out there right now and this album just shows that. The title song is brilliant and Play It Cool, Right Between The Eyes and Not For Sale round off an absolute corker.

3) Magma by Gojira

Gojira constantly prove themselves to be one of the most consistently brilliant music acts out there and Magma is just another amazing album from these guys. It's hard to even pick favourites from this one because you could be talking about half of the record. One thing I love about the album is that it is crafted to give certain songs maximum effect and that just adds another dimension to it that makes me love it even more.

2) Metal Resistance by BABYMETAL

Now when I was first introduced to the concept of three Japanese teenage girls singing in front of a metal band, it made me physically sick. But I'll be damned if hearing an amazing drum solo while Suzuka Nakamoto sings about chocolate isn't catchy as all hell. And with this latest album, they really establish themselves as a serious metal act, but they keep those little BABYMETAL flairs that give it such a unique dynamic that sets it apart.

They are definitely a love-or-hate thing but this album is hard to put down fundamentally. It varies from epic Dragonforce-style classics like Road Of Resistance and EDM-infused bangers like Awadama Fever to furious, fast-paced headbangers like Syncopation. It's hard to even pin this one down to a certain genre and when you add in amazing songs like KARATE, YAVA and From Dusk Till Dawn, this is such a fun album that is so easy to come back to over and over again.

1) Haven't Been Myself by Too Close to Touch

I honestly don't think my emo/post-hardcore phase is ever going to end. And if records like this keep on getting produced, I don't fucking care. This is the album that motivated me to start this thread because it is just incredible. I think I actually love every song on here, I can't even identify a weak spot. A true masterpiece from start to finish. It reminds me of Bring Me The Horizon a bit (who released one of my favourite albums from last year) but it has it's own touch and mood that puts it in a world of it's own. Honestly one of the best albums I've bought in the last few years.

And the emotion in this album is borderline soul-crushing and when you know the story behind it, you get why. Songs like What I Wish I Could Forget, Sympathy and Miss Your Face are full of pain and grief but are also so beautiful. And if you can listen to Eiley without tearing up, you're broken. And the album also contains some really different songs like Translate and The Art Of Eye Contact that change the tempo at just the right time. This one gets my highest recommendation.

So what albums did you guys love from the past ten months?

Only heard one album released this year, but it's an awesome album.

Savages: Adore Life.

It's an album I definitely recommend. Warpaint have an album out this month or early October also that I'm REALLY looking forward to.

I'll have to check that first album out. But I got the new Warpaint album yesterday and it was really good. I hadn't heard of them before but I can see why any of their fans would be looking forward to it. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Wow I'm so out of the loop I didn't realized it's juts out lol, the 1st and 2nd album of theirs are fantastic, spacey, dreamey-sounding songs. Only heard the teaser for the new album and it sounds a bit more upbeat in terms of pace. I'll check it out :)

Helms Alee - Stillicide
Cobalt - Slow Forever
Boss Keloid - Herb Your Enthusiasm
Conan - Revengeance
Bossk - Audio Noir
Vektor - Terminal Redux
Subrosa - For This We Fought The Battle Of Ages
Sumac - What One Becomes
Trap Them - Crown Feral
Nails - You Will Never Be One Of Us

Still need to hear the new Neurosis, the new Devin Townsend album didn't really impress me (starting to go off him a little bit although I still love the classics), and the new Opeth might get a spin if I can be bothered.

I really enjoyed this one as well. There were some weak spots but overall, it was an awesome album.

I'll have to look into the rest that you listed, it seems like we might have a similar taste in music and I'd heard really good things about Subrosa and Helms Alee.

The new Helms Alee is easily their best album to date. Songs like Tit To Toe and Meats And Milks are bliss. If you like the sonic rumble of Melvins with psychedelic lead work and hooky vocal harmonies then you'll love them.

Subrosa are another unique act in that they're primarily a doom band, but they incorporate violins and chamber music in their sound with awesome vocals. I have a ticket to see them in a few weeks but unfortunately I won't be able to attend which is annoying as fuck.

I didn't buy a lot of music this year. These are in no particular order. I've listened to more Korean music this year than anything else but they were mostly releases from 2015. I think these are all of these full albums I bought in 2016 so far.

EXO - 3rd Album Ex'Act

Beyonce - Lemonade

DΞΔN - 130 Mood: TRBL

Haven't put together any kind of list yet. But number one is definitely Aesop Rock's Impossible Kid. Others in no particular order are:

Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered
Rotting Christ - Rituals
Apathy - Handshakes With Snakes
Frank Ocean - Blond
Anderson Paak - Malibu
Haken - Affinity
Royce Da 5'9" - Layers/Trust The Shooter
Schoolboy Q - Blank Face LP
Ghost - Popestar EP
Gojira - Magma

Ka - Honor Killed The Samurai
Homeboy Sandman - Kindness For Weakness
Statik KXNG
Curren$y + Alchemist - Carrollton Heist
Destroyer 666 - Wildfire
Chance The Rapper - Coloring Book

Still haven't checked out the new Isaiah Rashad or Mick Jenkins. Also waiting on lots of potentially cool shit from Kool Keith, Apollo Brown + Skyzoo, Every Time I Die, Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah and Anaal Nathrakh.

Only new album I got this year (until Hardwired comes out) Garbage - Strange Little Birds

Safe to say Shirley and boys can still deliver a really great album, reminds me a lot of their first.

I've gushed over my favorite albums released this year mostly in the R&B and Hip Hop threads respectively.

The releases I can say I like or really like are Rihanna's Anti, Kendrick Lamar's untitled unmastered., Drake's Views, Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book, Keith Sweat's Dress To Impress, and Maxwell's blackSUMMERSnight.

Shout out to T.I.'s Us or Else EP

I do love The-Dream's Genesis and Frank Ocean's Endless visual music productions. I guess they aren't technically album releases but they are two of my favorite projects in music this year.

Now, My Favorite Albums of 2016 (order of release, not ranking):

The Life Of Pablo - Kanye West
Lemonade - Beyonce
Blonde - Frank Ocean
Hard II Love - Usher
A Seat at the Table - Solange

There are still 3 upcoming releases that could potentially be favorites of mine before the close of 2016 - Lady Gaga's Joanne, Dawn Richard's Redemption Heart, and The Weeknd's Starboy, but it won't be easy to break my Top 5 listed above.
