There is a case to be made that Roman's suspension is just a speed bump.

Per the post made a few months ago, Roman would be fourth main eventer over the last ten years to get a Wellness violation. The only one of the other three that it had a major impact on was Rob Van Dam, who never was pushed as a top level star again.

Main-Event
Roman Reigns (6/21/2016) - 1st Suspension

Randy Orton (5/30/2012) - 2nd Suspension

Rob Van Dam (July 2007) - 1st Suspension, was WWE & ECW Champion

Upper Mid-Card
Kurt Angle (June or July 2006) - 1st Suspension

Randy Orton (August 2006) - 1st Suspension

William Regal (5/20/2008) - 2nd Suspension

Rey Misterio Jr (8/27/2009) - 1st Suspension, was IC champion at the time

R-Truth (11/22/2011) - 1st Suspension, main eventing with Miz against Rock & Cena at the time

Booker T (8/2007) - 2nd Suspension (first came earlier in 2007)

Mid-Card
Luc Gallows (10/2006) - 1st Suspension

Test (2/2007) - 1st Suspension, later released

Jeff Hardy (7/2007) - 1st Suspension

Chavo Guerrero Jr. (8/30/2007) - 2nd Suspension

William Regal (8/30/2007) - 1st Suspension

Snitsky (8/30/2007) - 1st Suspension

Chris Masters (11/2/2007) - 2nd Suspension, released during suspension

Evan Bourne (11/1/2011) - 1st Suspension

Rey Misterio (4/26/2012) - 2nd Suspension

Carlito (5/21/2010) - 1st Suspension, released from contract

Darren Young (10/6/2011) - 1st Suspension

Noticeably absent from that list - John Cena

He was supposed to be the Cena replacement, he might not be after this.

Hard to say at this point. He is a main eventer, regardless, and nobody is going to take that away from him (nor should they).

Hopefully, this will show Vince that, while Reigns is a main event player, he is not a proper replacement for John Cena, and he should not be the centerpiece of the company going forward.

That's my take on it. Cena would NEVER have done this...or at least he sure as hell would never have gotten caught.

Orton managed to get away with having two suspensions and still be on top of the card, the same will happen to Reigns. Only now it's possible he won't be Vince's choice to replace him as the new Cena.

Yeah 5-6 months from now it will be a non issue. But short term I expect him to be putting over Rollins and Ambrose. He took the pin from Rollins at MITB and will probably take the pin to Ambrose at Battleground. Once Battleground over with and with the brand split. They will start putting Reigns back in top matches and title will be back to him probably by Survivor Series.

It means nothing. WWE wasn't even going to suspend him, they were trying to cover it up. Media outlets got a hold of the news, so WWE had to pretend they're "laying down the law" on Roman. Like I've said before, Roman ain't the next Cena, he's the next Orton...only not even...but like a discount Orton. And this just puts him further down the path. Did WWE ever stop pushing Orton? No.

What's really sad about this is that they only took the belt off of him because of this. The fans LOVE what happened at that PPV...and it only happened by default. Here I was thinking they FINALLY listened to the audience, they FINALLY are pulling their heads out of the sand when it comes to the ratings/house shows numbers absolutely tanking under Roman. But no. He's just being "punished" Of course if it were Ambrose or Rollins who this came out about, they're suspended, jobbed out, and sent to midcard for a year.

Anyways, I'm glad the media had enough sources to find out he tested positive so WWE couldn't hide it like I'm sure they've done so many other times with so many other upper card performers.
