Something I always wondered.

Excess was a late night (11pm - 1am) show that aired on TNN (aka Spike TV) from August 2001 unti May 2002. It was a recap show featuring special guests and I'm guessing the deal for a new show was struck months in advance.

They were trying to get TNN to commit to another wrestling show for WCW and had taping dates set out, rescheduled and eventually cancelled. They did get a slot but they had no more plans for WCW considering that the "test matches" didn't go down well with the WWF crowd and various issues such as wrestlers finding it hard to get used to the WWF ring.
