The situation with Io Shirai and Kairi Hojo reported here originally, where both were contacted by WWE and told the Stardom office they were going to leave around the spring of 2017, has changed again. Shirai, whose leaving was believed to have been a definite the way she told the company, is reconsidering. Hojo, who had gone back-and-forth on the decision before last week saying she was going, is also reconsidering. Both received new offers to stay and are thinking that they have sure things in their home country if they stay, and if they leave, it’s a shot in the dark and uncertainty. The big picture is that NXT is going to need some quality women wrestlers to work with the less experienced wrestlers, unless they never bring up Asuka (and at first Asuka was not brought in for the main roster, but simply to have her in NXT). Shirai and Hojo are both pretty, and are excellent wrestlers, smoother technically than almost anyone, men or women, now on the roster. But they still may leave. The situation is also that there is the sense of loyalty in Japan to their company. They realize if both leave, the popularity of Stardom will fall greatly because there are no replacements. Shirai and Asuka also have past heat and Shirai has had people tell her that Asuka being in NXT will limit her upward mobility since Asuka got there first and is already a star, with the idea Asuka may be going nowhere, and that WWE isn’t going to push two Japanese women to be dominant on a roster at the same time. Shirai is a lot younger than Asuka, which works in her favor, and wrestles well, but doesn’t project the badass aura that Asuka is so good at getting over even though Asuka is not very big

Io projects a "badass aura" just as good as Asuka without being as repetitive or boring about it

Also I'd rather see them go freelance than go to WWE OR stay in Stardom at this point

I was okay with the idea of Io or Kairi coming to WWE/NXT, but if they feel loyalty to Stardom or more comfortable staying in Japan, then they should just stay over there. As much as I like Asuka, her limited ability to speak English limits her from having engaging story lines in NXT. In Japan where workrate and good matches can completely overshadow someone who could literally be a mute, it just doesn't work as well in WWE and both Io and Kairi would be in the same situation as Asuka.

I wont lie, it is a bummer to hear that news, as I was already envisioning seeing Io vs. Ember Moon or all the other girls that will be in the Women's classic fight each other in new match ups. Well, good for Stardom and Io/Kairi.

I'm fine with them not coming, the last thing the women's divisions need is 1 or 2 more Brockskas.

The report didn't say for sure they were staying. Just that Io is reconsidering and they'e both up in the air. I mean, I know nothing about these women but the report said nothing definitive.

Wait..

Asuka was brought into "Stay in NXT" Whoa wtf. That can't be right.
I thought that was common knowledge?

She was signed in order to beef up the NXT touring brand. As much as I dislike it, I imagine it's probably exactly the same with the likes of Aries and Roode who like Asuka are starting pushing the wrong end up 30 and they're well known names to get eyes on the brand.

I don't know if that report is true or not, but I'm just going to assume it is, and if they do end up coming to WWE/NXT, that's cool as well. No point in getting ones hopes up that they're still coming to WWE, and then finding out this report was actually true.

Selfishly I want to see them in NXT, but I'm okay with them not coming to the company as well. Stardom would be fucked without them.
