Im shocked that anyone watched it in the first place
I was gonna make that joke, Big Bang is dumb, insulting, drivel.

Anyone watching that new Netflix original, Dark? Not a lot out there about this but what is out there seems positive… plus, it was released on my Birthday.

I'm two episodes in, it is slow and seems to be focused on mood more than anything else so it is... very European. As a narrative slowly forms, it is funny because reading around the intention was to make a science fiction show but instead it is pure horror in its execution, really getting under your skin... with a science fiction core. For the lack of a better measuring stick, it is like a twisted German Stranger Things.

Oh yeah, it is German. Did I mention that? The English dub the show defaults to is… atrocious and even if you are one of those Philistines who only watch dubbed content because “I want to watch a show… not read it!” then you are going to do yourself another massive deservice to not watch this with its proper audio. It is like Netflix deliberately put in as little effort and money into the dub as they could, to make sure you had no choice but to watch it properly.

So Alias Grace (Netflix) ended up being pretty, pretty, pretty good. Sarah Gadon was absolutely phenomenal, I never knew she had it in her :jjones

Not sure what to make of the random David Cronenberg performance though :mj

I'm too lazy to find the Curb thread. Non stop hilarity and great ending. Miranda killed it. Everyone still at the top of their game after all these years.

HBO comedy is the best.

Just finished that new Netflix show, Dark, which dropped on my Birthday. Not sure if that has changed in the week and a bit it took me to get through this but there wasn’t a huge amount out there about this going in so it was a surprise for once. Now I’ve watched it I can basically sum it up as “Donnie Darko meets Stranger Things… in German”.

In terms of how I feel about it… I dunno. The first half of the season is quite slow but the lingering sense of impending doom, the sense we are just one spark away, helped along by exquisite execution in terms of visual and audio construction, make it hard to stop watching. Then as things start to really kick in to overdrive for the second half of the season, it is engaging and ookyspooky, however like seemingly the issue with all of these narratives, it is often too complicated for its own good. Sprawling and convoluted, there is a degree of satisfaction in the coming together at the end but glaring questions remain unanswered and many of the shows numerous sub branches end up adding little (or nothing) to the wider, central, narrative. I guess only time will tell whether that was by design or down to the fact they simply lost control of their own narrative. The show almost feels designed to be watched several times, not just the once. If you aren’t giving each episode your full attention throughout, then you are likely to be left behind and the fact it is subtitled only adds an extra layer of challenge to that too (yes I know there is a dub but that dub makes the old 70s kung fu dubs seem like Oscar worthy masterworks).

@MrMister have you seen Knightfall (History) yet?
No and I probably won't either. Everyone is too clean lol.

New She-Ra series coming to Netflix next year.
oh god

Not sure how to feel about that. Still waiting on what is done with The Witcher. Not that The Witcher and She-Ra should be similar, but both are fantasy.

Friend of mine has recommended Rectify. Anyone here seen the series? Non-spoilery thoughts?

Season 9 of Curb was a little hit or miss for me like season 8 but overall I still liked 9 more.

Type + Distance = No door hold. :mj4

Anyone watch that new show on Netflix about the Unabomber? Just watched the first episode, I had no idea Sam Worthington had these kinds of acting chops.

Completely forgot that Black Sails was this year. Thought it was last year for some reason :doh

The Leftovers and Line of Duty aren't really my cup of tea.

I've never seen Rectify myself but when it was airing everyone was raving about it. I believe even Blarg (RIP) praised it in one of these threads if I recall correctly.
Rectify is technically really good but it's also really depressing and unenjoyable to watch so I stopped.
Thank you. :)

Based on the few things I knew about the series, I figured I would wait until well after the holidays to start watching it on Netflix. :lol Definitely going to give it a go, however, considering the praise I have seen it receive.

Thanks again!
