Trying to understand this Gail Kim/Riho beef.

The problem is that Riho isn't a good worker. Neither is Adam Cole and a lot of these other guys and girls. They're good 'wrestlers' as in they can do moves and spots, but they can't work. If your matches make no sense and can't be taken seriously, you aren't a good worker.

The amazing thing about a guy like Rey Mysterio was that he could suspend your disbelief and make you believe that he was believably holding his own against monsters like A-Train, Batista, Big Show, JBL, etc. Everything he did made sense relative to his body type and athletic profile compared to theirs. Using his speed, using their momentum against them, just the moves he did and why and when he did them made sense. Like getting a big guy angry, going to the outside, having the chase him around the ring, beating them back in the ring and then blasting them with a dropkick as they were getting back in the ring. Logically speaking, that whole sequence did three things: Getting the big guy angry get them off their game, making them chase Rey would tire them out, draining their stamina, hitting them with a dropkick as they were getting back in the ring would do damage and frazzle them even more. This is just an example of something Rey would do with his matches. This is the stuff that's lost today, logic, nuance, psychology. It's a big reason why the current product is so hard to watch. Seeing midgets like Riho and Adam Cole trade spots with people twice their size is embarrassing to watch.

I mean, Riho is not believable as a fighter to be fair, so she’s not wrong. But I’m a fan anyway so sue me 🤷🏻‍♂️

The whole twitter mess is just so 2025 and lame…

Opinions have become sacred pillars to be defended to the death 💀

Yeah, but I still think Twitter was worse before, or at least in these cases it was the same.

But like I said at the start of this thread doesnt that make Gail Kim hypocritical herself caise who believes Gail Kim could really beat Awesome Kong.

Does anyway think Gail Kim in her prime could really beat Nyla Rose? No I doubt it.

And as far as I can remember almost all of Gail vs Aweome Kong matches were hard-core matches to make it more believable Gail could beat Kong.

Riho is 5'1 99lbs
Gail is billed at 5'4 121lbs.

Shes got 3 inches and 20 lbs on Riho

As others have pointed out, it is not just size. I would point out someone like Darby who uses his whole body as a weapon even though he is small and it comes across much differently than a ton of the other tiny guys who just pop up after taking moves like nothing happened. Psychology and selling are both important.

There are some specific cases that should never have happened in WWE as well. As much as I like Rey Mysterio, he should never have beaten Big Show apart from outside interference.

Eh, I only find it worse now because I think a lot of the more level headed people were smart enough to jump ship. What you're left with then is a metric ton of bots, every post having multiple one brain lobed idiots asking Grok for explanations, and a higher percentage of the dregs of society posting on it as a result.

Only usage I have for it is to curate sports news and wrestling stuff.

For as good as Rey is, going over Big Show is a bit much. But he makes you believe vs Big Show more than Riho does vs a girl 20lbs bigger than her, and that's saying something. His match vs Show at Backlash 2003 was perfect. He was believably frustrating, wearing out, and getting offense in vs Show until he got caught. I miss that kind of logic and psychology in wrestling.

1. Omega's 'gift basket' tweet is poetry.

2. I do think people are comically overreacting to most of what Gail said, but hey, that's wrestling twitter for you. It was Andreas Hale the other day, it's her now, it'll be someone else tomorrow.

3. The 'believable wrestling' crowd are always a trip. Like what you like, but don't be hypocritical about it. She's saying she only saw Riho years ago, so, what, with Nyla Rose? She throws 5 punches and Nyla brushes them off and puts her on her knees with 1. All her meaningful offence is her flying through the air and counters. Gail talks like they were out there trading chops.

4. The Always Offended brigade and their whack ass criticisms are even worse. If a cameraman happens to shoot her ass in the course of a match like happens in every single wrestling match... Big fucking deal. People still bitching about women wrestling in Saudi Arabia while pedaling this crap. Good grief. Maybe when women bump for moves they should fall in a cross-legged sitting position.

Riho leans too much into the kawaii/loli/cute girl aesthetic. You don't get do or die vibes from her.
Most of the time she poses at the camera she does it to twirl or look cute.
She is supposed to sell that she is a real life fight and getting her ass handed to her. She doesn't do that. That's where Gail is coming from. Gail was and is sexy but during the match she sold being hurt, having her ass kicked and hanging on for dear life. Riho don't do that.

Cornette is gonna go nuclear on Kenny for this.

He worked with her at TNA and has always praised her. She likes him too. Not surprisingly, neither of them like goofs:
