I mean at least he admits that he doesn't care about growing AEW, he's a hardcore fan that wants to appeal to hardcore fans, he doesn't care about becoming a legitimate competitor or becoming a force in professional wrestling.

I mean fair enough too, he's got all the money in the world and he books what he wants, it's not entertaining for the most part, but he's having fun.

Lol you're joking but this is a legit statement. He's already got all the money in the world he could ever spend.

So he's here to put on great wrestling and become friends with all of his favorite wrestlers lol.

The guy is just a wrestling fan at heart like we are. Only difference is we don't have the cash flow to start our own promotions.

I am one of those "sickos" who loves bangers, but am also someone who enjoys consistent direction with the characters and stories. All too often someone gets pushed for a few weeks, then are rarely heard from for a while. This is AEW's fifth year in existence, so he's had plenty of time to learn that, but hasn't. Since HHH and HBK have become bookers, they have been masters at long term storytelling. Sami/Bloodline, Rey/Dominik, Cody's story, Rey/Santos, Gable/Alpha Academy, Melo/Trick, Bayley's face turn and eventual title win, Liv/Dominik, among others. Their most recent attempt at this, The Devil storyline, was a massive flop. The wrestling in AEW is still good as always, but at times you can tell that it's booked by an IWC guy who came from money rather than two guys who have been in the business for ages (and neither of them have booked too many shows that have been bad in the ring either, meaning that you can easily manage both in-ring action and story development if you know how).

I think that's the biggest thing above all else, it doesn't matter what the content of the tweet or the comment is, because it's Tony Khan saying it, it just comes off as cringe inducing, because we know he's not the most socially aware person and he's quite awkward in his demeanor. He comes off as a Redditor trying to sound cool and badass when we all know he's soft and meek.

I mean this is what AEW has been from the start, a passion project. The Day 1’s have always known this. They will never “beat” WWE. They’ve been around too long.

It’s you people that try to force your idea on him of how a pro wrestling promotion should be built based on how you think WWE was built.

It’s the most entertaining wrestling show on TV because of the fact he doesn’t give a shit. Does he make mistakes and shit booking decisions? Of course. But he’s already become a “force” in wrestling as you wouldnt be enjoying WWE as much as you have been this year if AEW didn’t exist. Both companies help each other.

How is anyone trying to force anything on Tony Khan?

By viewers watching in smaller numbers and fewer people buying tickets?

By people in online communities like this one saying they don’t like it, or certain aspects of it and discussing it critically? (Same as WWE, TNA when it was in its heyday, etc?)

When people say they don’t like DC comic movies, are they trying to force the studio to make it differently? Or are they just saying ‘I think this sucks, that’s too bad because I really like DC and wish it were better’?

I don’t see people saying they don’t like Jericho’s character and think he’s stale as trying to force him to change … they’re saying they don’t like what he’s doing and wish he’d go away or at least do something different. That’s expressing an opinion, not trying to FORCE anyone to do anything, lol.

Not surprised to hear him say this - it’s quite obvious that’s what he’s doing and it’s why the audience doesn’t grow and hasn’t grown. The more time AEW has spent on the air, the more the ratings have dwindled and the more sparse attendance has been.

how out of touch this was for him to say. You’ve run off 300-400K of weekly viewers, and every time you return to a town/arena the attendance is a fraction of what it was the last time you were there - but in his mind it’s all good? Pretty jarring really.

Well there are many variables that go into cable numbers and live ticket sales. For example if you look at Forbidden Door, Tony Khan can easily sell it out if he were to drop ticket prices, but the gate is looking huge right now so why would he? So people don't take pictures of empty seats and post them on X like losers? Like he cares at the end of the day lol. And cable is just cable. Back in 2019 I remember they started at around 200K subscribers on Youtube, now they're at 4.1 million. I bring that up only to illustrate that cable is not the only viewing audience. As long as they're renewed that's all that matters end of day because cable viewership is largely unpredictable.

All I'm saying is that people need to stop looking at AEW like its some corporate empire who's sole mission is to become #1 in the wrestling industry. It's not, and that's okay. That's the box that people like to "force" AEW into. So when they don't match the same energy you see in Hartford, its a stick to beat TK with, like this wasn't always a hobby for a billionaire in the first place.

Not saying he doesn't care about profit, any businessman would, but I'm sure he's more than happy with simply breaking even on all of his operating expenses, and it looks like he'll be in profit anyway if even half the rumored renewal numbers are to believed.

Is it so bad to cater to your hardcore fanbase and be comfortable as the distant #2? Yes Tony Khan is a shit booker for the most part, but so is Triple H and so was Vince, none of these guys know what they're doing. But what sold the hardcores in the first place was his ability to be an incredible matchmaker and focus on the in ring aspect.

You know who really loves to have lots of sickos assosciated with them? Television channels and advertisers.

But hey, no need for a TV deal or money, TK is a billionaire, right?!
Well they're getting renewed my guy, so this is a mute point. And yes WBD and AEW have a great relationship so I don't know what you're getting at.
