Discussion Starter #1
– NXT Superstar Tommaso Ciampa appeared on WWE’s The Bump earlier today. During his appearance, he discussed the controversial finish to the main event at last Sunday’s Hell in a Cell 2019. The non-finish for the Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins Hell in a Cell match appears to still be inconclusive, but WWE is now labeling it a “referee stoppage,” rather than the initial confusion that it was a disqualification for Seth Rollins. Below are some highlights and a video of this week’s show featuring Ciampa.

Ciampa on the Hell in a Cell finish: “I’m just gonna give you my two cents on the Bray and Seth situation. From a performer’s standpoint, if Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano in TakeOver New Orleans, Unsanctioned, ended with ref stoppage, it’s something that just doesn’t fly in NXT. And that’s what makes NXT the A-show. You know what I mean?”

Ciampa on being back in NXT: “It’s great to be back in NXT. NXT is my home, and I think I made it pretty clear on Wednesday night what I’m coming back for and that’s Goldie. And every single night on USA when you see the Undisputed Era, and you see Adam Cole, and you see him holding onto Goldie, you just look left. You look right because I’m going to be nearby.”

Ciampa on the stingers from his neck injury: “Yeah. I woke up symptom free, man, from surgery. And that’s a sign of a full recovery. When I woke up that first day in the hospital, I had feeling back in both my hands. No numbness, no tingling, no burning sensation. So, those are all good signs, and a couple hiccups in the road over the last six months, but that’s expected. Overall, though, training fully and feeling good.”

Ciampa on the Blackheart special on WWE Network: “Yeah, it was a cool opportunity to give the fans and everybody a peek behind the curtain because I’m pretty closed off in some ways in my personal life and keeping it separate from my professional life, but during Blackheart, you see it all; my wife, my child, the journey that we’ve been through over the last year, leading up to me winning the NXT title and obviously neck surgery and being forced to relinquish the title. It’s a crazy year that it’s been for myself and my family, and Blackheart gives you this awesome behind-the-scenes look at everything that makes me kind of what I am.”

Tommaso Ciampa on what fans can expect for his return: “You can expect a second title reign. That’s what you can expect. For the last five years, I’ve talked about NXT being the A-show. For the last five years, I’ve talked about the NXT title being the most prestigious title in the entire world. Right now, Adam Cole is just holding to my possession. And it really has nothing to do with Adam, and I think he even knows that. He’s the wrong man, wrong place, wrong time. Whoever was holding onto the title, is the guy I was going to come for, whether that be Johnny Gargano, or Finn Balor, or Adam Cole. It doesn’t matter. My name is going to go back onto the plates of that title. I’m not stopping until it happens.”

Did he go tell Vince that? Because I'm pretty sure if Vince wants it, it's going to happen.

It's not like this has gone over well by those on RAW either, if reports are true.

It's not like he and anyone else can stop whatever Vince decides to do.

And that's why I love NxT. Fuck the 'main roster'.

Raw and Smackdown are an inconsistent mess with no storytelling and a lack of direction. WWE relying on stars outside of the company like Fury and Cain and relying on nostalgia like Hogan, Rock, Austin and Flair... Yea fuck the main roster. I feel dirty just mentioning it.

My only regret is they put NxT as the shield to guard the main roster from AEW, when in fact it should be Raw or Smackdown. I get no pleasure watching AEW beat NxT on ratings. As both are the best wrestling going right now. Raw and Smackdown should have taken that bullet.

If WWE insisted on direct competition, it was always going to be NXT, at least at first. Put Raw or SD against AEW and you run the risk of a chunk being taken out of the TV rating for one of your long-running shows.

NXT, on the other hand, is in a win-win situation from a ratings standpoint. If NXT wins, then AEW is clearly second-rate. If AEW wins, then who cares? It's only WWE's third brand anyway.

I'm confident that was WWE's thinking going in, and it makes sense.

Maybe, but it's not like they're above bad/stupid finishes either. Wasn't that Gargano/Cole cage match finish embarrassing to anybody else? I remember the Bayley/Sasha iron man match one was stupid as hell too. Hell, didn't him and Gargano basically repeat the same ending (thematically) to two of their matches in a row? Gargano consumed by vengeance lets his emotion get the best of him and loses? Alright, we get it.

I know none of this is remotely close to the Hell in the Cell ending, but it's still all sincerely dumb, and completely unsatisfying.
