What do you guys think this years Wrestlemania will do in terms of PPV-Buy-Rate? Last year did around 900,000 buys. But for some reason I think this years will reach 1m. What about you guys?

Can they do over 1m with the current predicted Wrestlemania Card? If not who do they need as a guest host to do so?

Can't say exactly until I see the final card. But my guess would be 850,000 (450,000 domestic). Maybe less if they don't book a big money match (e.g HHH/Taker, Cena/Taker etc) and/or the guest host is disappointing. Can't imagine Cena/Miz attracting many casual fans.

Should get a boost from Mexico due to Del Rio challenging for the World title.

With the current card the buy rate for this year will not be passing last year's. Whether or not HHH vs the Undertaker can carry it over the hump i seriously doubt it.

I dunno if the average demographic of people who can actually buy PPV's would really be effected by that.

But either-way whatever the card happens to be in the end I doubt it will outsell last year. I'm definately excited about WrestleMania but as a fan I looked forward to HBK/Undertaker II alot more than the estimated card for this year.

Well last years WrestleMania had the two biggest drawing stars since Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock in John Cena and Batista going one on one for the WWE title in a hot feud as well as Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker in a Career vs Streak match that was a rematch of arguably the greatest WrestleMania match of all time. On top of that there was the break up of The Legacy with a match between Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase and Triple H/Sheamus at a time when Sheamus was a hot star, we also saw Edge/Jericho which had been built up for half a year and a great Money in the Bank match.

This year it looks like it will be Cena/Miz, Edge/Del Rio, Triple H/Sheamus again, The Undertaker and Wade Barrett, Mysterio/Rhodes, Money in the Bank and Orton/Punk and of all of those Triple H and Sheamus is the only hot feud and nothing makes me believe any of the others will get as hot as that one. That card just does not appeal to me that much and especially as a WrestleMania so i don't see the buyrates for this coming one being better than last year or even as good.

If Austin or The Rock come back and guest host then that will bump up the buyrate, albeit not by a significant margin. If they go ahead with the HHH v. Taker than I can't see that drawing anymore than last years HBK/Taker match, especially as Taker's stock is slowly dropping.

WM 26 - 885,000

By looking at that and the current card it doesn't look good, but i'll guess around 750,000 - 850,000.

I didn't buy last years Wrestlemania, but i will get this years one, not because of the card or any recent storylines... I want to watch it for old times sake, i rememember getting really excited for Wrestlemania 16/17/18 etc, those were the days...

Yeah I couldn't agree more. WWE is really lacking in big name Main Event wrestlers these days. Undertaker's match and an awesome guest host(The Rock?) will have to save the day.

With the predicted card they won't be getting anywhere near to last years. Probably around 800000 buys. With a Cena/Orton Title match (which I still hope for) the buyrate would be a lot better, it could very well be over a million buys.

I don't think Bieber would help with buys really. I'm a huge fan of Mac Lethal, but if he was going to like host say a Nascar PPV that cost 60 bucks, I wouldn't fuckin watch. I can't see a lot of Bieber fans flocking to their TVs to watch wrestlemania

This is Wrestlemania. It's not about workrate, it's about who sells PPVs. WWE is aimed at casual fans, not the IWC.

I for one can not understand how anyone, whether casual or smark, can prefer Cena/Miz and Orton/Punk (two matches that should headline Summerslam at best) over Cena/Orton.

If these two matches indeed happened, Wrestlemania will absolutely suck(qualitiy and business wise).

As this post helps to illuminate, I think for all of the (over)analysis of the strength of a given Wrestlemania's card/celebrity power, a lot of people tend to buy this one event based on fairly emotional reasons. Two years ago, the card sucked save for HBK/Undertaker (and yes, Orton/Trips was a very hot feud and that helped, too) but it still did pretty well on its own terms primarily because WWE hyped it to high heaven as the "25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania" and a lot of casuals were attracted to the hype. I was talking with a casual fan last night at a grocery store who literally said they'd be buying this year's Wrestlemania because he wants to see how the Georgia Dome looks for a Wrestlemania.

Obviously, these can be considered "outlier" buys to some degree, but if you bundle a bunch of "outlier" buys together, they probably make some kind of impact. Hype. Hot, soap opera-like feuds that attract casuals. An interesting location/venue. A guest host? Etceteras.

Last year's card was stacked from bottom to top and underperformed based on the strength of its card.

I do think Orton/Cena would be the worst option, though. Even casuals are tired of it, much less the smart mark audience of which the Boston crowd was representative at The Royal Rumble. Orton's still not nearly at Cena's level. This isn't the time for their Wrestlemania one-on-one encounter (which I'm quite certain will happen before either guy retires).

On topic, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say less than 800,000. I don't think there's anything that would attract casual fans.
