Re: The Reality era begins tonight?
He's just heeling it up, meanwhile RAW is promoting movies, dvds, Scooby doo, we are still knee deep in this PG era
This.
He wasn't being serious, was just buzz words and he was being a heel.
Original posters point is though could this be something you look back on as a starting point. Everyone's always "just being a face or a heel". Vince was "just being a heel" when he said the Ruthless Agression comment. It wasn't like the next week they said "welcome to the Ruthless Aggression era". It's usually an intangible moment which is looked back upon in retrospect as an invisble starting point to define a new era.
I said a while back it seemed like we had now entered the "PG-13 era" and it felt like the tide was turning similar to '96/97 as you could feel the product changing into what eventually would become the "Attitude Era" from the cartoon era of 93-95. The product is definitely not as soft as it was during those dark, dark days a few years back with The Miz as heavyweight champ, The Spirit Squad, watered down DX, heel Michael Cole, etc. And I'd say it's not even as soft as it was a year or so ago when it seemed like almost every single match involved some character that came out who's only character trait was that they danced.
The product is becoming more aggressive, there's less dancing and kiddie shit, there's new characters who are over and aren't just cookie-cutter generic looking bodybuilders (Wyatt's, Shield), and the fans are choosing who they want to cheer for and who they boo (whether they be a face or a heel). Yes, we're still going to get spammed with product placement and advertising and they're not going to fully alienate the kids demographic, but that's simply a reality of being a public company and needing to ever-increase your bottom line to shareholders.
It's not going to happen over night, but I think a change has definitely begun which will be looked back upon later to define the new era (whatever it ends up being called).
