Heel work in the WWE has been generally lacking for some time. Some of it has to do with the death of kayfabe. But a lot of it has to do with the lack of commitment and heels just wanting to get themselves over with the crowd. The lack of quality heel work is really becoming apparent in the road to WM.

Even Paul Heyman has been lacking. Everyone praises the guy to no end. But has he honestly helped get Roman Reigns over for the WM Main Event? Maybe you can argue that he has crap to work with. And he did start to do a good job the Raw after the Royal Rumble. In general since then, he really hasn't done anything to help Roman get over. Neither has Brock.

Look at the IC Ladder Match. What heel work has helped Bryan, Dean, or Dolph in any way? It's been a kinda goofy build up to what should be a good match. Wade could likely do a good enough job helping put these guys over even more, but he really hasn't been given the chance. Heel work has been overshadowed by silly stealing of the IC belt. There's really no build here at all. The WWE is just lucky that they have Bryan, Dean, and Dolph in the match who are 3 of the most over guys on the roster anyway.

Then you have Bray who I've never been sure if he's a heel or face to begin with. Talking to himself probably isn't the easiest thing for anyone aside from HHH. Taker's always been the biggest spectacle of WM. But the heel work here is so poor, that most people aren't even sure if they should be interested in seeing Taker. Come his entrance, it won't matter. Again, luckily Taker is so over. But there's just no compelling heel work happening here either.

Cena v Rusev should be an easy storyline. This should be a layup for Rusev. But it feels like he's in over his head. It feels like Cena has to act as his own heel to build this match seemingly on his own. Maybe this can be written off as Rusev is too green and he's a little intimidated working with Cena.

It feels like the only guys left as heels on the roster that are really helping their adversary are Seth, HHH, and Miz. And in Miz's case, he's not even getting a 1 on 1 match with Sandow. That seems criminal because there is hardly a heel helping put someone over to the level he's doing it for Sandow right now.

Triple H is fine. He's always brilliant in his heel work. We just don't get much out of him without Sting around. But in spots, he's been solid and has really helped build up Sting even if Sting doesn't really need it.

And I can't leave out Seth. He's the one guy that deserves credit for his heel work right now. He's been every bit as good as Miz as a heel lately. He's been so good that when he started getting cheers in Iowa, he quickly turned on the crowd to get the heat back. Going into WM, Randy Orton is the only guy getting consistent huge pops. And a lot of that credit goes to Seth. While the WWE kinda flubbed Orton's return, these 2 have made it work anyway. Somehow, it just feels like these 2 are the main event. Maybe it's the only match where there's a legit story line. One of the main reasons imho is Seth is committed to playing the heel role.

It feels like the WWE really needs to refresh the top heels on the roster asap. Outside of HHH and Seth, we have no Main Event heels. Perhaps they should rethink the prominence of Miz on the card and have him working with top faces. Also it might be time to turn some guys.

Without any great heels, that's what seems to be making the product lack right now.
