In the late 90's, back during the original ECW days, The Dudley Boyz were one of the hottest acts around. I'm talking about the 2-man duo (sans Joey Gertner or Sign Guy) of Buh-Buh Ray Dudley & D-von Dudley, not the many other Dudleyz through the years (Big Dick, Dances With, etc.) At one time, although obviously blinded by markdom™ I would have even said that The Dudley Boyz were my favorite tag team of all-time. To this day, I don't think that there is a better finish in the history of professional wrestling than the Dudley Death Drop [3D]. The way it was booked like it was death in ECW was incredible. Breaking Beulah's neck, scoring the first pinfall on Masato Tanaka, winning the ECW World Tag Team Titles multiple times, etc.
Flash-forward sometime and the Dudleyz move to WWF. They get over, again, and are remembered for table spots (where unfortunately The 3D became more of a Pancake/Slapjack than a neckbreaker) and had great gimmick matches, be it TLC, Table, whatever with the likes of The Hardy Boyz, Edge & Christian, Too Cool or even The Acolytes. They were also notorious for putting women through tables, like Lita, Trish Stratus or even Mae Young. WWF tried to split up The Dudleyz for awhile. D-Von became a preacher & brought in Batista as his "deacon." Bubba on RAW was trying to play Dusty Rhodes to Triple H's Ric Flair. Neither really worked and The Dudleyz were put back together as a tag team before leaving WWF.
A few stints in Japan (where they even managed to win some gold) but The Dudleyz, now Team 3D due to WWE owning The Dudley Boyz name, went to TNA. Both got pretty fat and out of shape. At one time, The Nasty Boys were brought in and even in their shape they managed to outwork the Dudleyz. Maybe that was the kick in the ass that they needed. Both have since gotten into a lot better shape, maybe even the best shape of their careers. Certainly the best shape for Bully Ray, whom is one of the best heels going today in all of wrestling. Brother Devon (is that still his name?) is the TNA Television Champion and I do feel like he still feels lost without Buh-Buh around but he hasn't flopped flying solo this time like he did as the Reverend.
In approximately three weeks, both contracts for Bully Ray and Devon come to an end with TNA/Impact Wrestling. It has been reported that Team 3D are upset with how negotiations have gone and they feel disrespected that it has taken this long and gotten to this level. So if there is a semblance of a chance that they could both walk, I thought we could talk about it. So here's the question I pose to you all: Would you like to see The Dudley Boyz have another run in WWE?
