I'm not going to debate the physical appearance of both of them. They look different. The system is slightly different. The entertainment aspect can be different. But in principal, they are both the same.

Both are "closed cage" concept. Both are won by pinfall or submission. Both are won inside the ring. Both can be contested with more than 2 wrestlers. Both are no DQ. Both can be practically climbed onto. Both can be thrown at. Both can be weapons themselves. But yet, the WWE keeps saying the Elimination Chamber is a brute form of punishment, as if it is completely different in concept than Hell in a Cell. And the WWE keeps saying the Hell in a Cell is a devil's playground, made to suffer in the chasm of hell (something like that - exaggeration). It's like the other is more punishing than the other. But the truth is, it is just the SAME! We're not stupid!

im pretty sure EC hurts hell of a lot more then HIC,considering its not "bendale" in a way that when u run into HIC u move it somewhat, its not tight and also in EC dropping on a steel floor hurts hell of a lot more
+in EC they have no excuse not to use it as a weapon while in HIC they rarely do nowadays

I don't think they're the same at all. They are both significantly different. The concepts of the matches are different, the cages are different and the way they are booked are different as well.

If you want a matches that are both the same, how about Extreme Rules, Street Fight and Hardcore matches. HIAC and EC are not the same.

To be honest, Hell in a Cell is a pretty lame concept. It's just a no DQ match with a big gate surrounding the outside of the ring. You're not restricted in any way that you would normally be in any other match. I mean, how often do matches get carried out any further than the announcer's tables? To access the real spots, you pretty much have to break out of the cell and prove to everybody that the concept of a cage locking you in together didn't accomplish anything, you're still free to leave.

The chamber is much different, aside from the ring, you're pretty much surrounded by real solid steel, putting kayfabe aside, it's legitimately punishing to it's occupants, unlike with the cell. Also it's designed so that the big spots can be accomplished without breaking out of the chamber, those holding chambers are pretty tall.

I remember before the chamber and cell had designated PPVs, everytime a cell match was announced, it pretty much gets no reaction from me, I felt like I was just supposed to pretend it carried any significance at all. When the chamber was announced for Summerslam 2003, I nearly shit my pants, because those matches are brutal.

???

Elimination chamber is 6 people in a elimination match and they enter at timed intervals.

How is that not different than 2 people fighting in a Hell in a Cell?

Personally, I don't give a shit about HIAC matches or cage matches for that matter. Elimination Chamber is way cooler and way more entertaining.

This.

But in the end its primarily just clever marketing to sell PPVs.

Hell in a cell is a regular no DQ match unless they break out of the cell and do the real high spots. EC is just brutal. I'd never want to work one of those.

I'm more confused between No Holds Barred and No DQ; Falls count anywhere and street fight.

There was a time when hell in a cell meant something. It was the top dog in gimmick matches. It was the only means to an end. The last choice to end a feud. Being locked inside a cell with no escape.

Now it's water down with the ppv sadly. I really hope they get rid of that c list show and bring back when being locked in a cell with your opponent meant this is the only way it can end.

But who am I kidding this is the E we are talking about.
