Was just thinking recently about that comment by Jinder. Personally, i think it has more meaning that meets the eye. In reality, it paints a picture of a bigger issue.

At first it seems like a dig at a rookie, but it is more of a dig i think of the company unable to effectively and efficiently get more of their homegrown stars over on TV and beyond.

To many , they are okay with matchups with hardly any heat, promo, etc. They just want to see guys in the ring. And that's fine if you like that. But the reality is, you aren't really doing the wrestlers justice when you have the biggest chance to be on national TV station and make more homegrown stars. Look at Briscoe...a guy with a unique character. Let's face it, today he'd be over more in WWE, despite probably dancing or having a more comedic gimmick. Cody left AEW to demonstrate, this is me, instead of who am i? We know it's counter productive to cater to the small niche and ignore the potential to grow way beyond that. Some argue that Tony hiring guys like Moxley, etc have given AEW more recognition, and it has. However, today most fans realize, it's not who you hire in AEW anymore, it's what are you doing with them?

To AEW's credit, they have done fairly well letting/getting some homegrown guys like Darby, MJF and a few others more over. I personally feel it was more of those individuals themselves being able to breakout instead of Tony booking them. The lack of being able to filter Tony Khan at times, lack of effective promos, storylines, and announcers who can actually recap moments and help tell a story each week is seriously lacking in AEW's department. If AEW is somehow able to turn things around, perhaps guys like Hook won't be so much of a mystery.

I mean, Hook HAS gotten over in AEW. He hasn't turned into a big TV star, no, but then Jinder Mahal held the WWE title for half a year, and neither did he.

Twice as many people watch WWE as AEW, far more than that know about it. To try and make a 1:1 comparison between them, to pretend like they can get to WWE's level simply by doing the same crap they do is ridiculous.

Even if they could, WWE is already doing that 7 hours a week, who in the blue hell needs any more hours of it? Though to say AEW is 'matchups with hardly any heat, promo' is completely disingenuous too.

Lastly, but not leastly, the only meaning I got from Jinder's comment was further evidence that in the here and now it's cool to be fucking dumb. Or pretend to be anyway. It was funny when Mariah Carey did "I don't know her" however many years ago. Now it's just tired.

A good theme but he will never grow in AEW. A nerd who cares about workrate can tell me if he has any potential but what does it matter when it’ll be squandered cause where he works

On HOOK being a bit of a mystery...

The TK 'HOOK title match issue' tweets and the spin-off tweets (Jinder, Taz and everyone else) got multi-million views. Now a lot more people will be aware of Hook which is great for him personally and for AEW. Let's see if it adds some extra viewers to the show out of curiousity.

It's not like Jinder Mahal is a household name either. In fact, he's someone you could have watched WWE programming and completely forgotten about until the last few weeks

I actually think AEW has done a pretty good job with HOOK's presentation, considering he is a smallish guy and doesn't ever talk.

This is true. Anyway you shake it, WWE is a much bigger platform than AEW, so it's natural that their stars would be more well known. As a result, even guys in WWE that suck in every way, who have gotten gimmicks designed specifically to bury them, are more well-known than anyone who has only wrestled in AEW.

“Who the fuck is Hook” is a perfect response to all the AEW dimwits who label everyone a star. “MJF is a star”, “Darby is a star”, “Sammy is a star”, “Jungle Boy is a star”. They live in their own delusional world.

Jinder Mahal may be viewed as a jobber who once won the WWE championship, but at least the guy moves numbers. He drew 3.9 million viewers in India when last week the show drew 2.6 million. The shows airs 6 am local time. That speaks volume.

Tony has done more to make Jinder relevant with his Twitter outburst then WWE ever had.

AEW Stans claim Death Adder Junior is a huge star. I can’t remember his name but this is him;edit I had this photo save on my phone for ages)

Everyone is a huge star to the AEW stans Daniel was a huge failure who failed to grow the numbers

Who the fuck is HOOK because the guy lacks any real substance. He’s essentially a borderline mute teenage looking kid that does moves in the ring. No development in 3 years. Remember when he got slaughtered in a poll by Dom Mysterio in the AEW section?

I’m not going to pretend that Hook is some big star, overall great talent, or any of that…

… but before Jinder had his segment with Rock two weeks ago, I forgot the guy existed. Wouldn’t shock me if more people knew of Hook at the end of 2023 than remembered Jinder.

Agreed.

Not a smart move to praise a main even match featuring a guy who looks like your typical indie wrestler when the WWE is throwing around The Rock, Punk, Orton, Roman, ect. Nobody knows or gives a f*ck about Hook outside of the fanbase that Khan already has in AEW.

It makes sense from Jinder's standpoint, what has Hook done in 3 years that says he's a big star that deserves a world championship match? He's been holding that FTW Title since forever but that has done nothing to elevate him or his opponents. It's just a way to make him look cool I guess or maybe it's because he's Tazz's son? Granted he is over with the fans, he has the presence and I acknowledge that but he seems to be stuck with Orange Cassidy, Danhausen and has yet to develop into someone interesting. It's been the same schtick since he first appeared.

Then again, Jinder isn't exactly a household name but he was a former WWE Champion. While it can be argued whether it was a good run or not, it was refreshing to see someone new at the main event scene and at least he did look somehow believable to me.

Tbf to Hook, "Who the fuck is Hook" is a nice idea for a printed shirt though.

hook has been there for years now and hasn't cut a promo. why does he not talk ?? it just comes across as strange to me. he's never going to get over until he can talk on the mic. they've booked him as someone who says nothing and turns up a few times to be involved in a stupid angle but tony is trying to make out he's a big deal. casuals don't care about this guy.
