Hiroshi Tanahashi has a full right biceps rupture in Philadelphia and should have surgery and be out for six months. Instead, he’s missing three weeks, with Satoshi Kojima taking his place, and will return on 6/9 to shoot an angle with Tetsuya Naito and built for the Dominion show on 6/11. I remember how Shinya Hashimoto destroyed his career and his effectiveness because he felt he couldn’t take time off. New Japan will do fine without Tanahashi for six months. Even if it hurts a little, in the end, his getting a long break will be good. If he had surgery now, his return could be a big attraction for the Tokyo Dome show and his different injuries will get a chance to heal up and he’ll end up with more longevity over it. But in Japan, the mentality is the company comes before the individual and if there are plans, you keep the plans unless it’s impossible to do so. Obviously, he was a key player in long-term bookings plans, but like with WWE, sometimes you just have to change plans when injuries happen.
