And suppose they had her manage Gabriel and Slater. Could her presence help elevate them to an MNM in 2005-esque status, and thus help at legitimacy to the tag division? You can argue that a good division needs more teams, but if you remember, they kind of built a division around MNM back in 2005/6 and actually made it fun and competitive for a while. SmackDown was doing well in the tag front until later into the Londrick and Kendrick reign and Deuce/Domino came in.

Melina got MNM over, and got Nitro over during his solo run. You can go on about their ring work all you want, but c'mon, neither Nitro nor Mercury would've gotten any real heat without her. Hence her getting all the promo time during that run (Nitro and Mercury got what, two or three promos in two years?), and hence her being the one who ultimately remained in the spotlight when using the Hollywood gimmick.

Melina's advantage over Maryse is that she can draw heat. Maryse's character is snobbish and arrogant, but she's too laid back to get people to react (cat calls aside). Melina as a manager was able to provoke genuine dislike through the screaming, the bitching, the in-ring interference and all the OTT heelish stuff she did. Similar to Stephanie McMahon, but with less impactful storylines and angles. People just seem unwilling to admit to it.

I think she could bring a spark to Gabriel, Slater and the Corre in general. I'm not saying they're bad, but there's something bland there. Melina is nothing if not animated.

Slightly random but regardless, Melina was only ever over when she had the short skirt and did the entrance. Slater and Gabriel suck and adding Melina would only make the pairing worse.
Um, no. I'm pretty sure Melina wasn't wearing short skirts in 2008, and yet she was over as hell during her first feud with Beth Phoenix (back when she first became a fan favourite). She's been over for the length of her career. She's hit a kind of stand still, but that's because WWE completely ruined her heel turn and people don't know what to make of her now. She's still getting a reaction nevertheless, which goes to show.
